A Long Time Ago, on your CBS affiliate, a great debacle took place...

A little something from the dusty nooks and crannies of my garage:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/flightsuit/starlogcover.jpg

Since some of you nerf-herders recently got all upset over me putting several hundred images in one post, I'll just link to my scans of the cover story's pages:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/ … ethree.jpg

And here's an advertisement from the same magazine (Starlog, February 1979) to show you youngsters what we did back when you couldn't get your movies from the iTunes store and the advertisers who could provide those movies had no desktop publishing software:

Enjoy...

Oh, and Happy Life Day to all of you!

By the way, for anybody who hasn't noticed, you should be aware that with all of the linked scans, clicking on them once will enlarge the images.

Hey, my pleasure, Malkin!

Antonio, what's "chiaros..."

Chiaroscu..

Isn't that a type of bread roll?

Wait, no, it's an Italian meat, right?

The Star Wars special is INSANE.  The Beau Arthur Cantina musical number is just the tip of the iceburg.  There's a scene where Chewbacca's son Itchy (!) uses some holocrystal that fades 70s disco ball style into a musical ballet of a funkytown romance virtual love-partner--hyper Star Wars underage wookie bestiality fantasies.  It's no wonder George Lucas wants to desperately keep that thing burried and forgotten.  The Boba Fett animation still rules though.

Is that available on BT?

I remember reading some character guide that mentioned Boba Fett's original appearance was in the Holiday Special. I had no idea what it was, assumed it had to be some convention or charity event of some kind.

The truth, it seems, can be much more horrifying.

Actually, Itchy is Chewbacca's elderly father; his son's name is Lumpy. Please note that page 52 of Starlog #19 incorrectly states that the photo of the grey-haired wookie holding the X-wing model is a picture of young Lumpy. It is, in fact, an image of the geriatric Itchy.

Young Lumpy does, in fact, enjoy an entertainment device which uses technology similar to that of the Millenium Falcon's holographic chess board to project a tiny, holographic troupe of cartwheeling, somersaulting escapees from Cirque du Soleil, complete with fruity calliope music and LSD-inspired leotards.

Later in the story, Art Carney's Kashyyyk-based shopkeeper character conspiratorially gives Itchy a piece of software for use with the family's virtual-reality set, which is separate and distinct from Lumpy's holo-toy.

In trying to explain the nature of the software, Carney says, "It's just... wow!" His tone of voice and body language imply something unspeakably pornographic.

Then Itchy puts on a VR-goggle headset and soon finds himself having an erotic experience with Diahann Carroll, who says things like, "Mmmmm, I can feel you creating me!" and then starts singing a steamy torch song.

During this episode of inter-species cybersex, Itchy's hand moves in a rhythmic, masturbatory fashion, and the movement gets faster as his level of excitement increases.

And don't even get me started on Princess Leia, who looks seriously coked-out through the entire film and sings the Life Day song, which is set to the tune of John Williams' Star Wars theme music.

Oh, the humanity!

Or maybe that should be, "Oh, the humanoidity!"

I can confirm that everything Bren described in that post is accurate, though experiencing it is certainly a mind-altering experience.

Oh and Mark Hamill is fresh out of plastic surgery and looks like a wax museum Shirley Temple caught on fire.

So that's where the footage went. It's running thru some render farms as we write, after Lucas 're-imagined' and digitized it. It'll look and sound nothing like the original in the reissue.

Lucas ninjas are prolly hunting down and burning all copies of that issue right now. It never existed.

So which was more bizarre? The Star Wars TV Special, or Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July (for those who remember this acid trip)?

Not to worry. It takes the brain awhile to rebalance. Try again in a few years.

Could be worse.
