MysticCow, now that you're 'back' and posting up one hellacious catchup run, be advised the Mods rather frown on resurrecting zombies, currently pegged at around the two month mark, without a particularly good reason. You can't really make up for 4 years of absence, you know.

Re: When, exactly, did it become OK to use dirty words here?

because the thread is done. It doesn't do much good to bring up past discussions whose history will tend to derail the most recent post.

Just start a new thread, and if you must, refer to the old thread with a link.

And because we've done it this way since Washington was a corporal.

Re: When, exactly, did it become OK to use dirty words here?

Now I do remember when this site was first starting up.... the days when [UT] was the rage and was one, if not the hottest topic. Even remember when they where talking about shutting down the website altogether. (correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they do it for a very short period?)

My son who was pretty young at the time, he enjoyed posting in the forum and I didn't have to worry what was said. Now people curse just to curse. It's not always needed to be put in a post to explain what you mean. With that said, myself included... have cursed out of anger. But to me to curse every other word in a calm conversation is unneeded and just shows the lack of knowing how to speak the English language without cursing.

Would you speak like that in a job interview? **truthfully** confused
Not even adding all the family you respect.
Now I know these are forums are where people can come, relax, help people with their mac's and post their feeling about what is happening in their life as well as around the country, and that's cool. But to curse every other word is unnecessary.

justine wrote:

Cursing has always been allowed here. That's why filters are in place. Now, if you're swearing just to swear, that's another story

Think again, the filters where in place to stop this. People have left MacAddict/Maclife magazine for other opportunity's and things have changed over this time and not all positive. Also have you ever read some posts in some threads?

justine wrote:

This is also not the forum to discuss this in.

Ummm, this is the "forum feedback" Forum is it not?? confused

justine wrote:

I also don't believe young kids belong in these forums at all

So do mean that if a new mac user who wants to join in on this site and forums (because one part shows what Maclife is all about as a whole) needs to have to tolerate unnecessary constant cursing (for no reason) adult or young adult alike? Some threads and posts are very interesting and should not turn into the "battle of the curse word all stars".

Bat wrote:

We did, tho, have a recent complaint on those lines, about another Unplugged thread. Longtime, if not very prolific member.

In that post she does not speak about what language is/is not allowed.

justine wrote:

If the magazine editors have no problem with it, then members shouldn't either.

You mean then there is no need for mods, the mods are here to look and judge weather this post or thread is appropriate. So that would mean if it's O.K. with the mods, it's O.K. for the site and members have to tolerate it. I maybe wrong but I can't see the Maclife staff reading every reply posted in a thread, and rely on the mods to watch what is going on in the forums.

If Daniel and Tallgeese were interviewing me for a job and they treated their interviewees like they treat the people here on the forums ... I would be more than happy to tell them to smurf off. shrug

Re: When, exactly, did it become OK to use dirty words here?

First of all, you quoted me saying this was not the right forum to post this in. You came to the game really late. This thread didn't start here.

When i said young kids didn't belong here, i meant it. There's nothing to offer a young child that a parent can't get for them. If they're at least the minimum age, then they've already heard it all before. If you don't like it, turn the filters on. There's a lot worse on these forums than a few curse words. By the way, show me a post where the poster is swearing every other word and it'll be taken care of.

If you have a problem with the content of the threads/posts and the way the mods handle it, then you can email the powers that be, which starts with Roberto Baldwin.

That maybe true, but the thread does not show that it was moved. That's the only reason for my answer.

What if the parent does not know the answer and asks on this site or wants to look/answer a thread, Does he/she need to cover the screen as if looking at porn just because the cursing is constant?

justine wrote:

Please going around the filters is too easy and openly done. IMHO just because it's been heard doesn't mean it should be posted that way over and over in these forums.

justine wrote:

thanks for elaborating on the problem, and making my point.

justine wrote:

Do I really need to do that?? I don't want to post a bunch of links and make others think I'm attack them.... Pass.

BTW, don't take this as a jab at you, I'm just asking/answering questions. this is not a attack on you personally.

There are report buttons anytime you want to report a post, and if you don't like the way the mods handle it, email Roberto.

You know, you're welcome to go elsewhere if you don't like the content on these forums. I really don't know what more you want or what you expect to happen. It is what it is, and quite frankly, it's not likely to change.
