Links below.
This should be fun. The Combo Updater is 729.2 MB. Setting the timer.

Re: 10.5.7 released
I wonder what firmwares I had updated, as my Mac restarted 3 times. The support article Apple links to takes you to the details page for the 10.5.6 update! So I have no idea what was just updated. Anyone know the real details?
Apple wrote:
About Mac OS X 10.5.7 Update
The 10.5.7 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac.
For detailed information on this update, please visit this website: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3397
Haha, Apple just caught the mistake, as the link correctly direct to the 10.5.7 details page now instead of the 10.5.6 page like it was.

Re: 10.5.7 released
Hmm... I just opened Software Update and it crashed with a spinning ball. Not a terribly good sign....
Maybe I'll do ye ol' Combo Update.

Re: 10.5.7 released
I hate to use the word snappy, but my system feels great after this install. I had a crash earlier today (safari brought down the whole system) and it was sluggish even after a reboot. Now everything is moving right along. Thumbs up from me, so far. 1.5Ghz Powerbook G4.
I believe in Karma. That means I can do bad things to people all day long and I assume they deserve it.

Re: 10.5.7 released
Combo update worked fine here. No problems... yet.
Actually, I've never had a problem with a software update. (Except iMovie HD to iMovie '08.... GRRRR!)

Re: 10.5.7 released
Apple open source updates, including security, can be way behind the times by as much as 3 years.
http://rixstep.com/1/20090514,00.shtml
As reported by members of the Rixstep/7 forum.
bash seems to be about two years old.
bzip2 is still at version 1.0.4 which is a year old.
rsync is still at version 2.6.x which is three years old.
Most rsync updates since 2006 were security updates.
X11 is still 2.1.6 although X.org released 2.3.3 three weeks ago.

Re: 10.5.7 released
Apple hires Ivan Krstic. http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=3358
Krstic, a well-respected innovator who designed the Bitfrost security specification for the OLPC initiative, joined Cupertino this week and will work on core OS security. His hiring comes at a crucial time for a company that ties security to its marketing campaigns despite public knowledge that it’s rather trivial to launch exploits against the Mac.

It does seem a bit zippier. I don't know if the difference is real or perceived.

Re: 10.5.7 released
It always does, especially with Safari. But for some reason Safari starts sucking up resources again, slowly but surely, then it slows down again. This has been my experience within the last two years or so.

Safari's caches are probably just deleted during the update (caching has always been a problem with Safari).
Also worth mentioning: i7 support has been added (probably because of the Xserves).

Re: 10.5.7 released
I can print again wirelessly (stopped suddenly 3 weeks ago) and I noticed that when I hit the print icon in Word it now works. You used to have to print under the File menu in Word as you would get a connection error message otherwise.
Nice

Did you install the combo or with Software update?
If you look around the table and can't tell who the sucker is, it's you.

Re: 10.5.7 released
the combo. I stopped using software update awhile back.
when my macbook goes to sleep the fan starts racing and it won't wake up. I have to shut it down by holding the power button for a few seconds.
I've tried repairing permissions, zap the P, and all that crap but it still did it to me earlier today.
maybe apple will put out an updated update. I've read that others are having similar problems.
