Valve defends Left 4 Dead 2
Having spawned protests, a boycott and deleted user posts on their forums over L4D2 coming so soon, Valve is defending itself...
Since announcing Left 4 Dead 2 at E3 last week, Valve's come under fire from gamers who are upset that a sequel to Left 4 Dead has already been announced -- given their history of supporting titles like Team Fortress, Counter-Strike, and other games years after release, many gamers in the community were surprised to a L4D sequel so soon. Speaking with VideoGamer.com, Valve's Chet Faliszek defended L4D2, saying that Left 4 Dead 2 is "too big" to be offered as downloadable content. The game features 5 new campaigns, new characters and melee weapons, AI Director 2.0, and an unannounced new game mode. “It was just like, OK, this is big enough that this isn’t DLC, we’re not going to be able to leak it out. It’s a cohesive, single thing. It’s Left 4 Dead 2.”
Faliszek confirmed that Valve plans to offer additional updates for the original Left 4 Dead, but didn't provide specifics. When asked if Valve plans for Left 4 Dead to become an annual series that's updated yearly (ala Call of Duty) Faliszek said: "We do it once in a year and everyone’s like, oh my God! Let’s do this one. Let’s worry about this and then we’ll see.”

Re: Valve defends Left 4 Dead 2
I think they should just cave and give it a price break. Intro L4D2 at $30 to appease the masses. Or just change the name to: Left 4 Dead In New Orleans, then go on a yearly thing from there followed by a future complete edition with all the cities merged into one huge game. Likely on one big Blu Ray Disc.
Course I think the other half of the complaint is, folks aren't happy about the setting. I gotta admit, zombies in New Orleans doesn't really thrill me. Think a lot were hoping for remakes from the popular zombie movies but i'm guessing to avoid legal problems, those will likely remain only in user created versions.

Re: Valve defends Left 4 Dead 2
Perhaps via Steam they can check if you own L4D and give a discount? But as I've mentioned, they always have half off weekends, so the game will already be available for $25 not too long after release, at least for PC users. If this was TF3, or HL3 I doubt there'd be as much uproar. This is a game of it's own coming from a good company. And don't get me wrong, I'm not high-fiving Blizzard for their idea to split SC2 three ways, but if there's -that much- content per game, then at least we get what we pay for and they earned the paycheck. Sports games come out every year with very little change, this is an almost completely new game.

HL2 came out 4 years before L4D, and TF2 has had beacoups free addons, hence the uproar.
Yeah, the comparisons are year on year, and despite assurances of spacing big releases, there are a lot of big games slated for Xmas.
Looks like it's time to finally drop the price on the Wii. It's not the new hawtness no mo.

Re: Valve defends Left 4 Dead 2
L4D2 is still it's own game, yes it's L4D(2), but from what I've seen it isn't just an expansion, it can stand on it's own. HL2 Episodes One and Two on the other hand...

Valve prepping L4D2 demo for those who pre-order
As Shacknews reports, Valve plans to release a Left 4 Dead 2 demo next month for gamers who choose to pre-order the game. The demo will be made available for both the Xbox 360 and PC platforms on October 27th, while the final game is still on track for its Nov 17th release date.
Um, Gabe... this is going too far. Folks haven't forgotten the boycott; maybe this will restoke it.

They did the same thing for L4D1... This time I'll wait, because they'll probably have the 4 pack available again. The 4 pack is buy 3, get 1 free.

As at least one comment I've seen said, "I thought demos were to get you to buy the game. These people already have."

Ya really. Demos should get people to buy the game, not the other way around

Re: Valve defends Left 4 Dead 2
It's a sequel though, with 99% similar gameplay. I'll pre-order to get early access, I'm gonna buy it anyway.

And how do you pre-order?
I'm not dead yet.

Re: Valve defends Left 4 Dead 2
I see no evidence on quick search showing that, so I expect you can't yet. Likely it'll be announced nearer the release/unlock date, still over 7 weeks off if I saw the countdown clock aright. I did see many prior Steam PRs announcing other games becoming available for preorder, a la ARMA II Coming to Steam, Pre-Purchase Now!

Re: Valve defends Left 4 Dead 2
Well if it launches for $60 on PC then they can kiss my $$$ goodbye. I'd be fine with L4D1 for awhile unless the multiplayer market just tanks big time on it.

PC is usually $50, and Steam has 25% and 50% off sales all the time

Re: Valve defends Left 4 Dead 2
I bought a 4-pack on Pre-order, already have 3 other people sending funds via PayPal, so it's about $34 per copy.
