Ah, another Republican sex scandal, it must be Wednesday

Nevada Senator: "like, I totally boned her!"

"It is the worst thing I have ever done in my life," Ensign said in a brief appearance before reporters. He provided few details other than to say he does not intend to resign from Congress, and he did not disclose what prompted his decision to declare his infidelity. "If there was ever anything in my life that I could take back, this would be it," he added.

Ensign, 51, belongs to the men's group Promise Keepers, a Christian ministry. A member of the Senate Republican leadership, he was chairman of the party's campaign committee leading up to the 2008 elections in which Republicans lost eight seats to Democrats.

Ensign's spokesman, Tory Mazzola, said the affair took place between December 2007 and August 2008 with a campaign staffer who was married to an employee in Ensign's Senate office.

"Our families were close," Ensign said. "That closeness put me into situations which led to my inappropriate behavior. We caused deep pain to both families and for that I am sorry."

Two unfortunate facts about this case:

1. The stolid, unweeping wife didn't appear by his side at the press conference (always a blast)

2. The affair was with a member of the opposite sex (booooring!)

Ah well, maybe next time, eh?

EDIT: And if he really wanted to honestly unburden his soul he could say, "yeah, I regret being found out, but it felt really good at the time."

If that is the "worst thing he has ever done", then he is the best man on capital hill.

He was considering running for president, too.  Oh well.

No, Clinton did not admit to any affairs (under threat of blackmail) prior to receiving the nomination or being elected.

Being forced by blackmail to admit to an affair and being forced by the newspapers to admit to an affair really isn't much different in my book.

I don't recall "never having an affair" a legal requirement to be the president ... but you do know the law a bit better than I.

I'm not certain that there is a morals clause in the job requirements, however, there might be some concern over security clearances due to moral indescretions.

It has nothing to do with security, its just a freakish American puritanical obsession, an endless game of smear the dirty-birdy by a population with the souls of frigid old ladies.

Amen.

Or at the very least have just one of the righty-tighty commentators say it.

confused

"Legal requirement?"  Who said anything about a "legal requirement?"  Clinton was already president.  Announcing that you've been having an affair with a staffer's wife is not likely to put you on top of the list going into a presidential primary.

I wouldn't have an affair with a staffer. I would hire someoen specifically for that sort of behavior. I want a good professional, not some fly-by-night amature. And it also means you can find somone who meets your highest standards of physical attraction and dirty mind.

The amazing part is that it doesn't matter how often they're proven to be as morally squalid as every other politician, those moralistic super-Christians just keep right on voting for 'em.

Re: Ah, another Republican sex scandal, it must be Wednesday

I just love how he was a member of Promise Keepers, who have two (out of seven) rules regarding marriage:

PROMISE 3

A Promise Keeper is committed to practicing spiritual, moral, ethical, and sexual purity.

PROMISE 4

A Promise Keeper is committed to building strong marriages and families through love, protection and biblical values.

I guess he didn't really keep his promise, did he? Think they'll kick him out?

He's being unfairly singled out in a witch-hunt by partisan hacks merely because of his views on gay marriage.

Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.  Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."  They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.

He's against gay marriage because gays getting married would harm the institution of marriage, right?

PROMISE 4

How exactly does one practice sexual purity?

I got the ethical and moral part: don't come until she does .

And I know Sting is big on the spiritual part (I cpersonally can't do the 8-hour tantric stuff).

To me the "purity" can only be practiced IN the act, and it's a "you know it when you do it" type thing.

Or is it a "how would Jesus smurf?" type purity?
