BREAKING: Dubya speaks out on Obama!
"I know it's going to be the private sector that leads this country out of the current economic times we're in," the former president said to applause from members of a local business group. "You can spend your money better than the government can spend your money."
Repeatedly in his hourlong speech and question-and-answer session, Mr. Bush said he would not directly criticize the new president, who has moved to take over financial institutions and several large corporations. Several times, however, he took direct aim at Obama policies as he defended his own during eight years in office.
"Government does not create wealth. The major role for the government is to create an environment where people take risks to expand the job rate in the United States," he said to huge cheers.
"I am told, 'If you do not move strongly, Mr. President, you will be a president overseeing a depression that will ultimately be greater than the Great Depression,'" Mr. Bush said. "I firmly believe it was necessary to put money in our banks to make sure our financial system did not collapse. I did not want there to be bread lines, to be a great depression."
He said his administration sought to address the "housing bubble" before the system broke down. "We tried to reform" mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, "but couldn't get it through the vested interests on Capitol Hill."
Feel free to click the link. It also has his comments on health care reform and torture/Gitmo.
Man, this guy. I still can't believe he had two freaking terms.

George Bush is a soul crushing reality...but maybe his continued bad example of everything you shouldn't do or be will help get things moving in the opposite direction again.

It's good to hear some truth for a change, one gets tired of all the Obama lies.
A million seconds is 12 days.
A billion seconds is 31 years.
A trillion seconds is 31,688 years.
Hope and change could be forever.

Wow, that appearance must have garnered tens of hundreds of dollars.

Memorable quote from this special occasion:
I'll just tell you that there are people at Gitmo that will kill American people at a drop of a hat and I don't believe that persuasion isn't going to work.
Ah, memories.

Re: BREAKING: Dubya speaks out on Obama!
I like the problem he had with "the vested interests on Capitol Hill" like his party didn't control Capitol Hill or something.
Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.

He is trying hard to affect his legacy in the best manner possible. Write the history.

What I find amusing is that it was His policy and it is being continued.

This corrupt, moronic clown has the balls to speak out on how the economy should operate after his deeply abysmal performance?
He best run back to that hole he was hiding in before people get reminded of the prosecutorial opportunities kicking around...

Ok, did we fix it yet? Or is it still broken?

The GOP had a bulletproof 12-year-plan for the economy, until Teh Obamanation came along and screwed everything up just when it was about to lift off.

This is correct. But to have a thriving economy you have to have a level of trust in the system. The current depression was caused primarily by a large portion of the banking system going renegade due to inadequate regulation.
If the people have no confidence in the system you get a downturn and a lack of risk taking, which is necessary for recovery.
A well regulated and transparent system is the foundation for a thriving economy.

Just facts.
The sub prime loans were just part of the problem. Those, in and of themselves, could not have caused the current depression.
It took rolling them into securities that were given unjustified ratings combined with the hidden world of default swaps that made the crash happen. Basically bankers and financiers acting in ways that would be considered fraud were they not so rich and powerful.
But yeah, There were Dems at fault as well.
The whole easy credit thing was viewed by far too many as a good thing. It wasn't.
Somewhere during the last 25 years the idea arose that access to credit was the same as having wealth. A terribly wrongheaded notion if there ever was one.

The public should be storming DC with pitchforks and torches and several Senators and Congressmen should be tarred, feathered and run out on a rail.

You're referring to Republican officials, correct ?

Ah, but then we get into the difference between "facts" and "truth," which tends to be a bit too deep for the average conservative.
The way I see it, both parties smurfed up on this. But the overall policy focus of the federal government has been driven, since 1980, by conservative beliefs. Both parties were on board with it. It's how they burned their own house down.
