Airport drops off the grid randomly
Every so often (regularly enough that it's a pain) my Mac stops seeing my Airport base station. Unplugging and restarting doesn't have any effect. I have to hard wire it with an ethernet cord, at which time my Network Diagnostic screen shows both Airport connections and Ethernet connections. I unplug and am on my way.
Does this mean that Airport is just getting old?

Re: Airport drops off the grid randomly
If your Airport is new enough, it should be running in the 5 Ghz range, if I recall correctly. Older ones run around in the 2.2 Ghz range and compete with other devices.
Would a new Airport Express be enough for you ? I'd call up the Apple Store if this link doesn't do enough for you http://www.apple.com/wifi/
What kind of Mac is it, what kind of Airport, how old and what operating system ?

Re: Airport drops off the grid randomly
I don't have the latest Airport Extreme setup. It's 802.11g
New iMax 24"
10.5.7.
I'm cool to get a new set up if that's what I need, but when it works, which is most of the time, my connection is robust and fast. It's the random disappearances that are confusing.

I'm thinking a new Airport Express http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/
is a worthwhile investment, even if your current Airport Base Station is working perfectly.
It sounds like you don't need to jump for the Base Station. But check out the link in my first post to make sure.
