Here's an example of the auto industry's prudent spending and wisdom.

http://www.wallpapers.lt/pictures/1024x768/Motocycles_2003_Dodge_Tomahawk_Concept__000504_1.jpg

Set aside the fact that Chrysler clearly deserves major kudos for spending actual money to build a motorcycle with a Dodge Viper's ten cylinder engine, despite the fact that it's something they could never manufacture and sell.

What I really appreciate is seeing this Chrysler executive setting such a good example for the kids:

Got the ole helmet, the knee pads, gloves, sturdy, steel-toed boots that come up way past his ankles, leathers, and of course, the all-important back padding to protect his spine...

You think at the very least they'd have someone on staff that could had advised him on how to not dress like a middleaged dweeb with geriatric stylin's for a photo op.

//edit//

Especially since his sunglasses probably cost what i spend on beer in a month, and canadian booze ain't cheap...

It looks like a photoshop to me - he's not really driving it.

Re: Here's an example of the auto industry's prudent spending and wisdom.

That seems like an awful lot of trouble to go to to: "Hey look, I used my P-shop skillz to fake pics of an old-ass white man doing something!"

In trying to research that photo I did uncover the following:

http://damncoolpics.blogspot.com/2008/0 … plica.html

But if you thought you had no chance in hell to get your hands on one of these babies, think again. The Chinese have created an exact replica of the Dodge Tomahawk, called KMD K-007 Tron Bike MC-06. It’s got a weak 150 cc engine, but it looks just like the Tomahawk and costs only $1400.

Talk about a sheep in wolf's clothing! It's like one of those Fiero-based Countach replicas, only much worse!

Motion blur is easy, I could remake that photo in about 20 minutes.

This bike is nothing new. I remember seeing stuff about it like 5 years ago.

I'm pretty sure it's a real photo.

but really:
The Dodge Tomahawk
So they made a V-10 motorcycle. There have been dumber concept vehicles.

Re: Here's an example of the auto industry's prudent spending and wisdom.

To me, the real astounding dumbness is the guy riding around in his shorts with no safety gear whatsoever, and allowing himself to be photographed doing so. Everything else is peripheral to that main point.

He also could be driving it at a very slow speed.

But the point about lack of safety gear, real photo or not, is valid.

The insanity of putting a V10 in a motorcycle is also valid. They go plenty fast with smaller two stroke engines.

You mean two cylinder? I'm not sure if they're even allowed to make two-stroke engines anymore.

yeah, I think 2 strokes burn too much oil and so make too much smoke to be street legal nowadays. itʻs too bad, my RD 400C Yamaha sure was a screamer in itʻs day big_smile

Re: Here's an example of the auto industry's prudent spending and wisdom.

I thought lot of dirt bikes were still two stroke.
And I believe you can get more power out of a two stroke then a four stroke - since a two stroke gives power every other stroke opposed to every fourth stroke.

Besides - it's not like a V10 motorcycle would be street legal ...

Re: Here's an example of the auto industry's prudent spending and wisdom.

I erred when I said the Tomahawk was something Chrysler could never manufacture and sell. It turns out they sold ten of them, so the chances are it was certified for street use.

It's not street legal and also cannot be sold in California.

Re: Here's an example of the auto industry's prudent spending and wisdom.

The street legal is in reference to the Chinese bike.

But - "It seems that some are still miffed that Dodge never offered the fabled bike as a regular production machine, though a few were in fact created and sold as non-runners."

I'm guessing "non-runners" implies collectors item that can't be registered for street use.

Re: Here's an example of the auto industry's prudent spending and wisdom.

That's lame. One of the car magazines recently spotlighted this super-duper, special edition Ford Mustang that was an instant collectible 'cause it was essentially a race car from the factory. I forge the price, but it was way higher than a stock Mustang my many tens of thousands of dollars. The catch? It lacked normal safety and emissions equipment, had no VIN, and could never be registered for street use.

Though it was ostensibly for competition use, the article readily acknowledged that most of the car's limited run would wind up in the hands of collectors.

So...

These foggy-brained rich guys were investing in a car that could only be driven on a race track, yet the car would never be raced. It just seems so pointless; I can't relate.

Re: Here's an example of the auto industry's prudent spending and wisdom.

The L-88 Corvettes (and, I think, a few LS-7s- can't quite remember if that was ever really considered regular production, but very few were made/sold) lacked radios and heaters, to discourage street use.

I thought the Boss 429 Mustangs were interesting. That your model? Maybe you could shoehorn a 429 into that '77 Hornet AMX you want, unless you really want slow... or a challenge.

Not that it'd be a drop-in 304 replacement; but lacking 390s...

(Hey, how 'bout a 429 Pacer? wink)

No, the car I'm talking about is a 2009 or 2010 Mustang, which makes its collectible status a big joke. I think it was in a recent copy of Hemmings Muscle Machines, but it mighta been some other mag.

Is that the special edition Mustang they are doing to honor Lee Iacocacola?

Sure, you find them on snow blowers. I know because that's what I have, and the thing is only 2 years old.
