Mad Max 4 is on again?
Again they are teasing us with the possibility of a Mad Max 4:
recent article
I'd previously read that some Japanese company was considering doing Max 4 as an anime, which would have been interesting, but weird.
As far as this article goes, it makes no sense that they're looking for a younger actor, 'cause the last time we saw Max in Thunderdome, he was gettin' up there in years. Who knows, maybe they're thinking about doing a prequel, or a story that fits in somewhere between Mad Max 2 and Beyond Thunderdome? The Star Wars franchise, with its prequel trilogy and Clone Wars animated movie and TV show has certainly broken down any barriers there might have been to presenting stories that are not in the normal chronological progression.
Sadly, my gut tells me that Mad Max 4 in any form will remain a pipe dream.

Eh. I'm not too sure. Max's stoicism and emptyness is kind of the point of the movies for me, and I associate that so much with Mel Gibson.

They should make a series of prequels.
Mad Max - The Phantom Wallaby
Mad Max - Attack of the Platypus
Mad Max - Revenge of the Methed Up Biker

"Max Rockatanski & The Holy Grail"
(A Tale of Redemption)
Sort of a "Passion of.." sequel too.
Or "Maxpocalypto- a Tale of the End Times"
Based on... um...
...
...oh, nevermind.

They could get Mel back but have a long-lost son show up that he didn't know about, who would be the real action hero and Mel could call him "Junior".
Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.

But he has to do a back flip to land in the hole he lives in.
That was the best part of the second movie.

Zack Efron. ~$80-100 million budget, casting like that with the Mel (maybe with the full on beard we've been seeing) would get you at least 2-300 million. Keep the CGI limited to supplementary effects (task ILM, those boys know their charred metal parts), you get that nice crossover appeal.
BAM. movie.

Mel hooked up with Tina Turner, and Will Smith was born to roam the post-invasion wilderness and rebuild civilzation.
Bam! Crank that up a notch.
Out 7/4/'11.

Re: Mad Max 4 is on again?
Oh, man.
In other news, one film I don't intend to see is The Road. Not because I expect it to be bad, but because I expect it to be so well done that it will be every bit as disturbing as the Cormac McCarthy book upon which it's based.
In case you're not familiar with it, The Road is the most realistic, honest portrayal I've ever seen of what life would really be like after a nuclear holocaust. There's no Road Warrior, 'cause the roads are already littered with wrecked cars and trucks filled with dead people, and there's no way you could keep a car or bike running anyway. So no Road Warrior.
Just the road itself, and a few poor, miserable people pushing their belongings down that road in a shopping cart, hoping and praying that when the cannibals come for them, they'll kill them quickly, as opposed to raping them and keeping them alive so the meat will be fresh when they get hungry and cut off a hand or a foot.
The Road promises to be one of the most stunningly bleak, hope-killing films of all time. Subject yourself to it if you dare, but I think I'll pass.
