"Carbongate!"
You have to take what you can get, I guess...
Yesterday we wrote about Environmental Protection Agency economist Al Carlin, the author of a report that casts doubt on climate change. Carlin's study wasn't taken as seriously by the agency as he'd been hoping -- perhaps because he's not a scientist, and because his bosses never asked him to produce it.
But his cause has become a favorite of right-wingers, who suddenly believe science to be sacred, and are charging that the Obama administration is "suppressing" a report whose conclusions it dislikes. The anti-regulatory Competitive Enterprise Institute first publicized Carlin's report last week. Since then, Carlin has discussed his "findings" with Glenn Beck on Fox News, and on Monday, Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) called for a criminal investigation into the issue.
Now, Rep. Joe Barton is taking the outrage to a new level. This morning on America's Newsroom, the industry-friendly Texas Republican accused the EPA of suppressing the report, and declared that "just as Nixon had Watergate, Obama now has Carbongate to deal with."
Note that Barton called Carlin "a scientist at the EPA." In fact, Carlin has worked for the agency since months after its founding in 1971, but he does not hold an advanced degree in any natural science, and he has always worked as an economist.)
So just to compare: Watergate involved the cover-up of a criminal enterprise directed from the Oval Office. "Carbongate" involves the EPA ignoring a scientific study by a non-scientist that it never commissioned and which hasn't been published in any scientific journal.
This sounds serious!

LOL FOX News
The controversy is similar to one under the Bush administration -- only the administration was taking the opposite stance. In that case, scientist James Hansen claimed the administration was trying to keep him from speaking out and calling for reductions in greenhouse gases.
Oh, and also the one under the Bush administration involved an actual scientist.

That kind of statement really bothers me.
There never has been real science behind global warming scare, just like there wasn't real science behind global cooling scare before that, just like there wasn't real science behind the global warming scare before that ....
It's speculation and assumption fed by propaganda resulting in more propaganda.
You can find runaway climate scares in both directions using the same rhetoric being used today for as long as there have been newspapers.

"On the one hand, on the other" is a disgusting, false, and ultimately meaningless substitute for real thought.
Some subjects actually enjoy pain, and withhold information they might otherwise have divulged in order to be punished.

Not surprising.
There never has been real science behind global warming
And yet the great majority of climatologists differ with you, who are not so trained. Please cite evidence rather than belief and opinion- is this more evidence of the Protocols of the Elders of Geneva and the Worldgov?
This thread is in need of ample example.

Re: "Carbongate!"
There are two issues involved with global warming. The actual phenomenon, and the political smurf. I have no doubt the climate is changing. The evidence definitely seems to point in the right direction, and it isn't exactly unprecedented.
The political crap, on the other hand, is just that - crap. Most of the laws, and suggestions for laws, have more to do with economics than the environment. The government doesn't give a flying squat about the environment, but a new source of tax revenue is like a siren song to bureaucrats.

Of course the climate is changing, it's always changing.
However, it's not changing because of anything we are doing. It's changing because that's what it does, and what it has done for as long as our species has been here. Sometimes it changes slowly, sometimes it changes rapidly. Change is the only constant.

And the studies that support a human role in that warming are ... what? Lies? Bad science?

So climatologists (and other specialists) go to school, work hard, then embark on those studies in the hope of indirectly influencing policy towards that end?
Seems like a lot of work, don't you think?

I don't distrust all of the scientists. Like I said, I don't doubt the phenomenon is real, and that most of the scientist involved are sincere.

Remove the politicians from the equation. You still have the majority of relevant scientists around the globe saying the same thing, don't you?
