Gutting a Mac to make another
I hate the idea of just dumping one systems and getting another if the older parts still work. So i got a 2008 eddition tower, say i get one ofthe new Core i7s could i just swap and drop in my old towers GPU, optical, and HDDS?
Spelling fixed for "Mac"

Yes, but there's not a lot of point unless you've already upgraded your GPU/Optical/HDD above and beyond what the new machines already come with. (afaik, you can't order them without those things.)
