I don't believe it unless it's on FOX.

What the hell????
Why is she quitting now? It makes no sense. To focus on 2012? That's not even on the radar yet.
Is she pregnant again?

What the ...
"Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional Lame Duck status in this particular climate would just be another dose of politics as usual, something I campaigned against and will always oppose," Palin said in a statement released by her office.

Gotta love Fox.

Fox wrote:
Todd Palin told FOX News that his wife will concentrate on "doing the things for Alaska and the country" that she is passionate about and can not do as governor with the limitation and constant opposition she deals with within the state.
Palin, who defeated incumbent Gov. Murkowski in a primary in 2006, gained national prominence when GOP presidential candidate John McCain picked her as his running mate last year. But her approval ratings in the state have skidded in recent months.
Palin has been dogged in recent months by ethics inquiries. Her office last month announced the 15th dismissal of an ethics complaint against her or one of her staff.
Her negatives are high enough already without 'skidding approval ratings' in her home state. Now she can hit the lecture and talk show circuits full time.

Re: RUMOR: CNN apparently saying that Palin will resign
Anybody who thinks that she's doing this for 2012 is either delusional or just plain dumb. No politician resigns from a post 3 years before the presidential election just so they're free to run. Her term is up in 2010, which would have still given her plenty of time to run.
No, this screams scandal, and there will probably be much more forthcoming in the next couple days.

Re: RUMOR: CNN apparently saying that Palin will resign
But surely everything that could've come out would've come out by now???? She's gotta be about the most investigated person around.
Is there maybe a Senate seat opening up or something? I just can't believe she'd smurf the governorship without moving to something bigger and better.

Maybe I'm dumb, but tell me why these are mutually exclusive. Also, scandals come in all sizes, shapes and degrees. This looks more like avoiding the death of a thousand cuts, with a few deeper than others. She's apparently had multiple staff resignations, but I doubt she prescribed Michael Jackson's drugs.

No way is this about 2012.
Maybe she plans to go on the lecture circuit? Write a book? Get a political appointment?

It's been claimed that Right wing talk show host have a higher profile than Republican governors. I think she wants a free hand to criticize Obama et al. without the compromises she'd have to make as Governor. Or perhaps she has a beau in Vladivostok, and learned from Mark Sanford's unhappy experience. Perhaps the real question of Trig's parentage is the identity of the father.

Re: RUMOR: CNN apparently saying that Palin will resign
I can't imagine that quitting halfway through her first term as governor does wonders for her Presidential resumé, especially since a good chunk of that was already tied up by last year's election, but perhaps "less is more."

Re: RUMOR: CNN apparently saying that Palin will resign
Palin has millions on top of millions waiting for her on the appearance circuit. Frankly she would be a fool to let this opportunity pass her by.
More money than she could make in ten lifetimes of being a politician.

I think I worded myself a bit poorly. She's not doing this so she can run in 2012. That much is obvious.
The best reason I can see for her resigning like this is due to scandal. Big or small, that's the best reason I can see. The only other reason I could see is that she's tired of the jokes and jabs at her children (which she brought on herself by trotting them all over the place).

But Palin also hinted at her own national ambitions, invoking a quote that she credited to Gen. Douglas MacArthur: “We are not retreating; we are advancing in another direction.”
After the news conference, Palin asked supporters to “stay tuned” via Twitter. “We’ll soon attach info on this decision to not seek reelection.”
I think it's as I suspected. And Par. She's hoping to take advantage of the Republicans being lost in the wilderness without a leader to become the standard-bearer.

I would be absolutely delighted if Palin became a high profile leader in the republican party.
Just thinking of it makes me feel all warm and wiggly inside.
