What brand/model of modem and wired/wireless routers do you use?

I've always used Linksys modems and wired/wireless routers.  Generally they work well although at times the wireless capabilities sometimes are very intermittent, which is very aggravating as I use a Touch, (2) TVs, iTunes for music.

Does Linksys make adequate modems/routers for home usage or should I be considering some other brand?  Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

To answer your title question: AirPort Expresses connected to the cable modem provided by my ISP.

Since your problems are intermittent, I would suspect that there may be a problem other than your Linksys components. Use a program like iStumbler to check your signal strength and see if there might be interference from nearby networks or other devices using the 2.4 GHz band. You may find that others are using the same channel within that band and you should switch yours to another channel.

Re: What brand/model of modem and wired/wireless routers do you use?

I bagged the 6 year old Linksys at the beginning of the year and replaced it with an Asus WL 520g.  The stock firmware was fine for a few months and then I replaced that with Tomato.  Great stuff.  Overall, much better than any Linksys I've ever used.

The modem is the generic box from the cable company.

I have a Actiontec DSL modem, which handles DHCP and firewall duty. Since i have more than one computer, I've got a GS105 switch plugged into it - contrary to what my ISP told me, this works fine.

A long cable goes from the switch, along the baseboard, into the living room where there's an bridge-mode APEBS (along with the Mac Mini + TV and laser printer.)
