Xbox 360: More gay than ever before!

http://www.ebar.com/news/article.php?se … ticle=4063

"They were not saying 'I'm gay' but 'You are gay' or 'That's so gay,'' he said, adding that overall such "bad behavior takes up an extremely miniscule fraction" and that racism is often more prevalent.

Re: Xbox 360: More gay than ever before!

You just gave me a great idea:

There should be an online community that is literally a virtual public restroom. People could write on the wall, pee in a urinal, drill glory holes, wash their hands, whatever. Don't nobody try to steal my idea!

The PlayStaion Networks Profile doesn't allow you to come out ether so it's not just Microsoft. I don't own a XBOX 360 so I'm not sure if you can do what the community does for the PS3 or not but we just put it in the info section as G@Y and it shows up as that.

Didn't I read somewhere that Microsoft banned a lesbian because her presence "offended" the little psychos?

Well, when the majority of players are 12-year-olds, you just can't piss off that base.

I'm not trying to defend the term (I report every "gay" speech in any game), business-wise you just can't piss off 99% of the game population without going broke fast.

Re: Xbox 360: More gay than ever before!

If you read the article, you'll that, to their credit, the people responsible for Xbox Live (or whatever it's called when you're online with you Xbox) are far more concerned with preventing the little monsters from using "gay" as a pejorative term than they are with not offending the little monsters. In fact, to hear them tell it, it is that very concern which has up to this point caused them to put "gay" in the list of forbidden words.

So they're trying their best to serve a very diverse community and keep everybody civil.

I wonder if anybody sees that and thinks you're saying you're a gentile?

That isn't what I'm getting out of it.  First off, they are actively BANNING gay and lesbian members who decided to come out on their profile.  Thankfully, they are trying to address it, but there is still this issue of banning people.  I paid for my XBox live time too and if I want to identify myself, why can't I subtly like that instead of announcing it to the entire voice chat (hey, THERE'S a spot for harassment, huh?)?

It sounds more like the XBox community is trying to sweep gay as a pejorative under the rug, so to speak.  From a Warcraft perspective (I know it's a hair off topic, but bear with me), I see the word "gay" used as a pejorative more than any other racial/ethnic slur (and I promptly report it, but I digress again).  So either those two experiences (XBox and Warcraft) are 100% different, or this is just never reported (which I feel is what is really going on).

Re: Xbox 360: More gay than ever before!

I'm not sure I fully get that last part of what you're saying, but my reading of the article was that Xbox Live has with the best of intentions, done what they thought they should do in order to prevent members from using the word "gay" as a slur, and that, moving forward, they are looking at how to balance that goal with their stated intent to accommodate gay users who wish to self-identify as such.

I'm saying that "gay" as a pejorative doesn't get reported 99.998% of the time while people identifying themselves as being GLBT are BANNED 100% of the time.

I do agree with you about the change happening, but I found the other part extremely disturbing.

Re: Xbox 360: More gay than ever before!

Not the biggest fan of this topic, but fact is, there is an item that might be worth a few responses. A little surprised no one posted this earlier.

The next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is entitled "The Ballad of Gay Tony"- not a full game, but a new 'episode' of the current release.

Age gate

One wonders how/how comfortable the game's demographic to this point will be playing as the titular character, how good sales will be... I wonder if some Sims-like play might make up a substantial fraction of it (a sizeable number of Sims players seem to derive pleasure from torturing their virtual creations). I can imagine a fair number of homophobes/haters playing primarily to torture Tony in diverse ways.

Anyhoo... coupla trailers, some art etc. available. More coming as the 10/29 release date approaches. More info at various other sites.

That simply is not true. Most hardcore gamers are between the ages of 25 - 40.

I've always said that their needs to be an over 18 XBL and a children area. I mean, can you imagine just wandering down the street and randomly speaking to whatever kid you walk by? You would probably get arrested by the fifth kid.

Kids and adults, other than your own, shouldn't mix in the type of America that we have become- which is ironic because after all, it takes a village to raise a bra. . . i mean, child.
