I don't understand what that particular Max smiley is trying to convey in this case. Perhaps I should be more specific? To wit, Maxim encourages men to have very ignorant, un-evolved attitudes toward women. In so doing, it fosters a climate and culture which are injurious to women and girls in particular, and by extension, to human beings in general.

For that matter, Maxim fosters a generally pig-headed, juvenile, idiotic approach to life in general. Every other article seems to be something along the lines of "How to trick a girl into sleeping with you," or "How to talk your way into a nightclub for free without having to wait on line" and crap like that. Those of us who are worthy of getting into somebody's pants or a nightclub don't need to employ tricks, and we're already on the guest list.

Maxim is to print media what gangsta rap is to music.

A good thing there's porn, then, to foster good, healthy, mature attitudes towards teh wimmins.

Re: Maxim magazine, how do I hate you? Let me count the ways...

Are you saying Maxim doesn't come from a very low place? Do you assert that it doesn't train young males to have adversarial, dishonest, damaging relationships with females?

My objection to this sort of thing does not mean I'm on a pedestal. Speaking out against such harmful, sick indoctrination is a normal thing that any decent man would and should do.

It probably does and good for it. I for one am glad that we as a society cannot just ban magazines like Maxim. I don't read it, but I don't want to say that you can't either.

It's trash, no denying, but we need trash to balance out all that fake "family values" BS.

Re: Maxim magazine, how do I hate you? Let me count the ways...

Who ever said anything about banning any magazine?

And if you really think the only alternatives are "family values" or Maxim's values, you must not have any inkling of the broad tapestry of beliefs, values, practices, and lifestyles that are available to anybody living a human life.

If it came down to a choice between "family values" and Maxim's misogyny, though, I would choose "family values" in a heartbeat.

It think it caters to, panders to, reflects typical young males rather than 'trains.' You want that, talk to sturner about Skinner.

My objection to this sort of thing does not mean I'm on a pedestal. Speaking out against such harmful, sick indoctrination is a normal thing that any decent man would and should do.

I pick my battles, thanks. Maxim doesn't seem worth teh outrage... more like a shrug. And I don't think you're on a pedestal; soapbox, maybe. You pedestalize women, as you admitted a few months back, ye of short memory tongue; they of the po' pure innocence.

I noted you didn't go after the arguably more damaging porn issue. Adult material has its uses, and not bad ones for the well-balanced, but conversely, much more neg potential in the vein you refer to- but instead, you target a mainstream print mag. You could inveigh against that in a Sontagian thought piece; but it'd take work. This was basically a stream of thought rant- easy. Rant about porn, risk sounding like Ed Meese. Up for that action? wink

(And Justine, if you want an example used in a sentence- here you go).

Yuppers. Altho a minority with less power than could/should be the case, it is true- and, for myself, I find their stuff usually mo suited to my prefs. Guy-produced stuff is usually mechanistically lowbrow and, well- boring.

And those are the good points.

Re: Maxim magazine, how do I hate you? Let me count the ways...

Most women I've known well enough to be on intimate terms with regarding their porn preferences have a strong attraction to stuff that's, well, decidedly not feminist in nature.

But they don't like Maxim any more than I do.

lesbian oriented porn is rather more elevated, but that's more a matter of style. It's still primarily interested in sex.

Re: Maxim magazine, how do I hate you? Let me count the ways...

That would probably be due to the fact that it's porn.

Speaking of porn, I'm still laughing about that Carstuckgirls Web site!

Now the requirement is revised to include the complex interrelationships and roles of explicit imagery, fetishes, gender & preference diffs and more in your Sontagian essay, along with a note as to why you're still hung up on Carstuckgirls. Apparently you have a thing for female helplessness, distress/rescue, and fetish clothing issues bound up with your demonstrated auto obssession. Virtual paper on our virtual desk[s] by morning.

Should've quit while you were ahead. tongue wink

Re: Maxim magazine, how do I hate you? Let me count the ways...

I was joking about it being hawt. Carstuckgirls is not a turn-on for me.

Now then, if there was a site called Cellphonesignalproblemgirls.com, and it featured nothing but videos of girls who were having problems with their cell phone reception...

Well that's something I would want to look at.

Doesn't matter. You're still preoccupied with it. I didn't quote the 'hawt' post. cool
