rtcw enemy territory..will mac players get screwed?
By now most of you have heard that the sp of enemy territory was cancelled but plans were to release the mp portion as a mod or a patch. If they do release will it work the mac version? we could potenially get screwed not by a patch version as has always been the case with the mac version of rtcw but rather because when it's released on the pc I'm sure every pc user will install it leaving us mac users unable to connect to the majority of servers.

I'm going to err on the side of pessimism here. It sounds like ET is going to be more than a simple add-on, and with no profits to be made on either the PeeCee or potential Mac version, why would a porting house even want to expend time & energy on it?
Yeah, I think the days of RTCW for Macs are numbered.

well we have the MA server that we'll always be able to play on. there are enough mac people out there that play rtcw to keep wolfenstein alive even if we don't get the enemy territory version

Re: rtcw enemy territory..will mac players get screwed?
Is that the MA server that's still running 1.33? Alot of us have upgraded to 1.41, and I for one don't see any reason to downgrade.
As for there being enough people to keep playing the original version, I play with a clan, and all the other people I enjoy playing with will surely move on to ET when it comes out, unless there are some pretty glaring problems or it just plain blows.
If it comes down to either reverting to n00b filled original servers or finding a new addiction, I'll go for the latter.
Has anybody had any meaningful correspondance with Activision or Aspyr about this? We're all guessing at this point, some real answers would be a relief.

we would all move to ET if it was ported to the mac but if it's not then I'm sure a lot of mac guys will stay with 1.33

why are you staying on 1.33, why not move to 1.4 or 1.41?

there are too many 1.41 servers out there. being 1.33 as we are, we are one of the few good ones so are servers are always full and we don't get noobs :-) (most of the time at least)

I want one system to rule, one system to find them all and in the network bind them. I still like Mac much much more than PC but I am ultimately pissed off that people war over an operating system. I think that there should eventually be one and one only. one to run everything. user modifiable to do what they want it to do. I'm over not having games and other apps that PC's have and I am tired of seeing bulky worthless apps that are spyware on PC's. I hope that someday there will be a resolve in the computing world to bind them all into one.

It will never happen. If it did, we would all be in BIG trouble.
Competition is the only reason we advance. Without it, what would be the motivation to create the next great development?
