Help! Upgrading to Tiger ruined my DVD Player!
Hello,
I have an iMac Power PC G3 600 MHz, 256 RAM, internal CD-ROM drive only. Last fall I bought an external DVD drive, but my computer was not capable of recognizing it.
Someone in one of these forums gave me extremely detailed instruction as to how to "force" my computer to become DVD-compatible and to be able to use Apple's DVD Player (VLN is crummy quality).
Today, I upgraded my OS to Tiger, and the "DVD Player" icon on my dock now has a question mark on it. DVDs don't play.
Does anyone know of this fabulous person who knows the steps?
Thank you!

The question mark means it can't find the app. However, it should give you the option to fix that when you click it, didn't it?
Anyway, I use VLC for playing all kind of videos including DVDs. You can get it here:

It's free.

The DVD player icon in the dock is a "pointer" to the real app. The real app probably still exists in the Applications folder. However, as Uki pointed out, VLC is an excellent alternative.

Do a search for DVD Player in Spotlight, and hit enter when you find it. When you've launched DVD Player, right-click its icon on the Dock, and you should notice the option "Keep in Dock".
If I remember correctly, from having briefly used Tiger, in System Preferences, there should be a "CDs & DVDs" option for you to click on. Inside, you'll see something that says "When you insert a DVD" ... and a number of options, including "Open DVD Player"
MacBook, 13", early 2008.
