Then you misunderstood. Those comments were directed at why there was an embed policy, not specific functions like the reporter review program. However the stated purpose does seem prudent, to give commanders a background of who they are talking to. Reporters do backgrounds on their interviewees, its only prudent the .mil do the same on reporters. Especially with some of the disgraceful tactics reporters have used in Iraq and Afghanistan, such as spying on private conversations between soldiers and posting quotes attributed to them out of context. Its also hard to forget Mr Olivari's sensationalism about the new Iraqi airforce to the point of making stuff up that didnt really happen.

I gotta give credit where it's due, Steyr has the PR flack vernacular down pat.
