Re: New L4D DLC announced
Sort of.
I unexpectedly found it again at the local Wally Mart after checking online and finding it not in stock at any store for a long ways- WM, Best Buy etc. Made sense when I saw it, tho; they've likely shipped out warehouse inventory to clear space for L4D2.
Later I found that it'd somehow followed me and jumped in my cart as I left that area. Darn zumbies... I figured it was a sign, and'd prolly follow me even if I put it back (darned undead)...
Checkout gave me bad sticker shock tho, so it's still unopened JIC. I'll be looking at finances to see if I need to return it or not. Das Neu Boxen isn't battleworthy yet anyway; otoh I am expecting a *small* windfall sometime soonish. We'll see.
So, just giving you Fearless Zumbie Killerz the heads-up. Wouldn't want you giving it up for some new hawtness just as I $pent on it.

Re: New L4D DLC announced
I've been downloading and running a lot of the user made campaigns. I must say, that the old truth holds, most people can't design a scenario to save their lives. There are a few that don't suck. Most are either half finished, bad design, or are buggy. Doesn't mean I don't play them though.

Death Aboard, Heaven Can Wait, 7 Hours Later, Coal'd Blood, and maybe Night Terror (If you want to go through Disney World).
The ones that follow are too beta or questionable.
Dam It, Power Station, Blood Hospital, Last Train, Hells Hollow, Escape from Toronto, Dead City, Silent Hill, Dawn Awake,

How are those L4D tools btw? Easy to use or about as scary as soloing a tank with a handgun?

Re: New L4D DLC announced
Valve showcases Dark Carnival campaign in new L4D2 screenshots
Valve has announced that PAX attendees will be able to check out Left 4 Dead 2's third campaign at the show, "Dark Carnival":
Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2), the sequel to the best-selling and critically-acclaimed action thriller from Valve is being shown this weekend at The Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) in Seattle, Washington.
The game is available to play, by the press and public, at Valve and Microsoft's Xbox 360 booth.
After debuting "The Parish" campaign (set in the New Orleans' French Quarter) at E3 and "Swamp Fever" at Comic Con San Diego, Dark Carnival is the third of the five campaigns shipping with L4D2 this fall.
Valve is also unveiling a new Boss infected monster coming in the full version of Left 4 Dead 2. Known as "The Jockey" this is the third new Boss infected from L4D2 revealed thus far (the Charger was revealed at E3, The Spitter at Comic Con). The Jockey lets you attack lone Survivors and wrestle control of their movement away from them- into fire, off ledges, or straight into the middle of a zombie horde.
In addition to the new campaign and boss monster the PAX showing of L4D2 marks the debut of the "Zombie Clown," the "uncommon common" exclusive to the Dark Carnival campaign, and a few more of the 20-plus new items coming in the full product (electric guitar, machete, and the American baseball bat being offered as a pre-sell exclusive with select retailers).
Coming exclusively to Xbox 360 and PC on November 17, Left 4 Dead 2 promises to set a new benchmark for co-operative action games and become one of 2009's marquee titles.
Valve has also released new screenshots from the campaign which can be seen in the gallery above.

Re: New L4D DLC announced
Minor spoilerage, I guess. I'm not hurting yet and, anyhow- how deep a plot does "Something happens. You kill zumbies" need?
Also refers to blades as good zumbie weps.
I tried two new sections of Left 4 Dead 2 at Valve headquarters on Thursday and found a new best weapon for slaying zombies. I was also looking for enough new material to justify this sooner-than-expected Valve sequel.
To my right in a small conference room at Valve was Chet Faliszek. He's a writer on the game, and he has decided that the frying pan is his favorite weapon in Left 4 Dead 2, the fall sequel to last year's co-op first-person-shooter, anti-zombie hit. It is an effective weapon for smacking the undead, but I discovered I was a sword guy. The new Japanese blade dismembers L4D2's new, bloodier zombies with swift ease. Fans of digital gore will enjoy making heads roll.
When the first good price on this be, will?
For an hour, Faliszek and I, along with two guys from Eurogamer, teamed up through the first couple of sections of Left 4 Dead 2's Dark Carnival and Swamp Fever campaigns. Playing the PC version, I was hunting for what was different in these two chunks of the game.
The campaigns felt fresh. Both starred the game's four new protagonists. I was Rochelle the female TV reporter in Dark Carnival, shooting and slicing through an opening section that moved from traffic-jammed highways to a creepy motel and hillside. The second section had us in the carnival fairgrounds, fighting zombies near a shooting gallery, close to a merry-go-round and near concession stands.
I encountered some of the sequel's newness when the Jockey pounced on my character's back. This new special zombie announces its presence with a tell-tale snicker before it leaps on a victim's back. It rode Rochelle away from allies, thwacking her with a free hand as it went. The player can try to steer in a better direction, but can't outright resist where the Jockey drives them. Later, a Jockey would pounce on Coach, Faliszek's character for the session, driving him across distant rooftops until one of us shot the zombie down.
Also new — newest of all, perhaps — was the Charger, revised since E3 2009 when this whole sequel debuted. This special zombie no longer barrels through the players' group before grabbing one of them. It now rushes in and grabs a human player immediately, smashing them all the way toward whatever wall or other vertical heap is the terminus of their headlong rush.
Bu-but... no Bill?
What [out of] character will sturner have to play to indulge his frying-pan mania?

Re: New L4D DLC announced
Ya true. But the weakness for it on PC side is the 3rd party maps. They get released for free and give competition to packs made by the company themselves.
Consoles is all controlled by the owner of the network along with console specific coding. Will be interesting to see when Halo 3 gets to PC in the next 10,000yrs, how easy the mapmaking software is to use. Prolly see folks going,"wow I can't believe I paid $ for this."

How are they a weakness? I usually judge the decision to buy a game on how much user-made content will likely be released. I don't trust the publisher to release anything decent (or free) within a reasonable amount of time.

Re: New L4D DLC announced
The maps for L4D are ok. Some are beta, unfinished and likely to remain so. There are some that are nicely done, some that are insanely difficult. The finished maps which are moving through seem to be fine, and are a nice addition.

Re: New L4D DLC announced
Weakness for the developers to charge per pack. From their standpoint if they want more $$$ from basic crap like that, PC ports are a weakness. You can thank the abundance of piracy for that...arrrrr!!

Re: New L4D DLC announced
Pirating for the xbox 360 is way easier than for the PC.
Pay a geek friend to mod the firmware for 20 bucks.
Purchase spindle of Dual Layer DVDs.
Download game images and play.
PC cracks usually dont always work properly, and can be a huge pain in the ass.

How is that easier than...
-Company releases map pack for $$$ on PC side.
-Map pack gets posted on torrent sites for free within 5 mins.
-People d/l pack for free and give company the finger.
Ya you could do this on 360 via a PC but lets be realistic...can bet the majority of 360 players aren't smart enough or willing to goto all the hassle. Its a console afterall.

If you count the BF2 Expansions as Map Packs, then yes "they" have. EA just released an update for BF2 bringing it to Ver 1.5 and all of those Maps are now part of the Base Install, apparently.

PMed MacZ to see if he was still up for gifting me his spare copy. 4 months (April) is way long enough for me to forget these days, even a potential freebie. Sad.

Re: New L4D DLC announced
The last L4D2 thread being a ways back, I'll drop this here...
Left 4 Dead 2's pre-order bat detailed
If you read last week's Left 4 Dead 2 PR carefully, you noticed towards the end of the PR that an American baseball bat will be offered as an exclusive feature for gamers who pre-order the game "at select retailers". At PAX Shacknews sat down with Valve's Chet Faliszek, who explained that the bat will be made available for PC and consoles, and you won't necessarily have to pre-order the game in order to get it: "How it'll work is, if you're playing with somebody that's pre-ordered it, everybody playing gets it," said Faliszek.

And it's prolly not a proper Louisville Slugger, either- license fees and all. Still, a nice complement to the frying pan.
I 'spect I'll still gravitate to the japanese sword, tho. I so like to Arbitrate.
So, will the guys be fighting over who plays the chick reporter a la Zoey?
