Re: New L4D DLC announced
Wow, they've already posted an update for the new DLC... sloppy work Valve! But atleast with Steam it's easy to fix, heh.

Has it been floated at all (here or on the Steam Forums) that these "Boycott" people were a viral team from the beginning? Boycotts are a great way to attract large numbers of people centralized around an existing product, extend an olive branch to said group's perceived Founders then <gasp> they amazingly find new love for the recently renounced Spawn of Satan! Maybe I'm just jaded & skeptical.
I wouldn't think they'd fly people out in order to win them over. There's reason to be skeptical, but it IS Valve. Not Acclaim or Rockstar.
Oh, and Bat, I think the whole "blame Microsoft" thing has some merit. MS is causing the same foofarah in regards to TF2 updates not allowed to be done whenever they update the PC version through Steam, requiring them to wait until all classes are updated before they'll roll it out. Hopefully the 360 TF2 community stays intact that long.
Where they're not allowed to bitch is they know the rules - new content with new achievements means a paid download. Even Bungie had to adapt to those rules.

Yeah, it's just convenient to have MS to blame. Gabe knows the game; he was a manager on Windows 1.0 IIRC {..pause for sturner's spit-take
} and they get props for continuing keeping it free on PC, tho I wonder how long that'll continue. As long as others do, which is indefinitely, I hope.

The Left 4 Dead DLC 'Crash Course' has been released! Just run Steam and it'll update itself automatically.
Also, Left 4 Dead 1 is now $15 if you still don't have it.
And finally, the M|LF server is running Crash Course. Enjoy!
Soon, I hope. And you forgot or didn't notice ><
As promised, Valve has just released the Crash Course campaign for Left 4 Dead. The DLC, free for PC gamers, contains new maps for Survival mode and includes a new 2-chapter campaign. Valve says "the primary goal of Crash Course is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns."
>> To celebrate the launch of Crash Course, Valve is offering Left 4 Dead for 50% off for the next 3 days on Steam, bringing the price down to $14.99. For even greater savings, the Left 4 Dead 4-pack is priced at just $44.99. <<

Oh come on Bat. Windows wasn't commercially viable until it was Windows 3.
Note that it went from Windows 1.0 (crash and burn every 15 minutes) to Windows 3 in one fell swoop. At least it didn't crash and burn every quarter hour, and it actually ran programs. Other than making the BSOD a household cussword, it introduced PC users to what Mac users had known for awhile. Graphic User Interface is the bestest!

Re: New L4D DLC announced
Gotta admit, CC seems a little amateurish for an official campaign. Theres weapon spawns all over the place and the maps don't really seem tuned for VS well even though its meant for VS more. Then the first chapter is insanely long compared to the 2nd. If it wasn't for the new comments and emotes from the survivors, i'd feel sorry for all those XBL ppl having to pay $$$ for this. Yes the new comments are funny. Prolly the only reason I can give for getting CC if you aren't on PC.

It seems that you can wander around the first part forever. Lots of places to poke into and there may be several routes that lead to the safe room.

It didn't have many sales until then, true. What does that have to do with Gabe being a project manager on it? Point was, he went back a long ways with MS before founding Valve; he knows the Olde Ways.
Note that it went from Windows 1.0 (crash and burn every 15 minutes) to Windows 3 in one fell swoop.
Don't think so, from what I recall of my readings on OS development- also I have, IIRC, every or nearly every iteration except 1.0 archived somewhere. There were a number of them between 1.0 and WFW 3.11 (NTM the NT series). Come to think, I have an NT4.0 Workstation somewhere I never broke the seal on (computer shows are [were?
] fun). Have more pressing work to get to before looking for/playing around with them, tho.

Which, to think of it, isn't that bad an accomplishment for a GUI face on DOS- tho DOS was arguably stabler still, and fast. Come to think, in my limited experience with WFW 3.11, I can't recall causing or even seeing it lock up once, even on a Packard-Bell(!) 25MHz 386 with 11MBs RAM.
Guess I'm just lucky that way.

MS never sold Windows 2. It was an incremental improvement. Windows 3 was the breakthrough. You didn't have to launch Windows, it was the default. Windows 3.11 introduced real stability and network capability that was lacking in 3.0.

I saw Booksley on the other night, but I couldn't play with you guys, the game was full. So I did Crash Course as a pickup game with strangers.

There were iterations of 1, as Sci pointed out. I think I have 1.01-1.04. Not sure what I have of 2; I archived the old stuff years ago, never working with it. More of a curio thing, for hoped-for future leisure time.

Doesn't bode well for me, but I guess hit or miss beats nothing.

I saw the cheap L4D. I'm waiting for L4D2 to come out and with it a "Zombie Bundle" of both games.
