AM3 on AM2 board?
Was checking for a bios update and noticed on the page for my Gigabyte board, they state AM3 support. I also looked at the CPU compatibility list and it lists AM3 under the most recent update. So did I miss something or should AM3 be able to work in AM2?
Board is: M57SLi
Hmm, looking at the other revisions, it is showing there is no support for it on 1.0/1.1. I'm pretty sure mine is a 2.0 board as it had 2.0 bios on it to start and all the numbers seemed to note that too. Guess if this is true i'm glad I happened to get a 2.0

Re: AM3 on AM2 board?
The memory's not as clear as I'd like, but I do remember something about backwards compatibility mentioned about AM2/AM2+/AM3 boards/CPUs. I'd check before buying, but if your boardmaker says so, it's likely true.
The older board might not, say, support DDR3 RAM or HTT3.0, but as far as basic functionality goes, the boardmaker should know.
Wouldn't hurt to look thru reviews, either.
(PS the lesser BE OCs as well as the new 3.4GHzer for only $200, that's the smart buy now.

Don't really intend to buy something atm, just was curious. Only other thing I can see my Rev 2 notes that the others don't is a 3+1 Phase VRM.

Re: AM3 on AM2 board?
AM3 CPUs have a DDR2 and a DDR3 memory controller, so they'll work in AM2/+/AM3 motherboards, if BIOS compatibility is there.

Re: AM3 on AM2 board?
That's what I thought I remembered, but decided to play safe and check first.
