Re: Anecdotal Warning - Living in Glen Beck Nation

Yes - do you understand the meaning of the word or ??

He starts by saying "I think" - which indicates it is an opinion.
He then gives two possibilities, the second of which I think is very likely.
And then he explicitly states he doesn't know.

You do not like the implications of either possibility Glenn Beck gives.
I understand that. You are entitled to your opinion.
You are not, however, entitled to say that Glenn Beck claims Obama hates whites. That is a lie, that is not what Glenn Beck stated.

Well then surely with all of this ruckus (including him losing his sponsors) he will seek to clarify his remarks and apologize for his poor choice of wording and lack of clarity on such an important issue!

Re: Anecdotal Warning - Living in Glen Beck Nation

....so Beck thinks Obama hates white people or white culture.  Well, he doesn't believe he hates white people, but he does believe he's a racist.  Which apparently is entirely different.

Gotcha.

And we won't find you "defending" these comments.  Until you defend them.

Many people are racist without even knowing it. They don't "hate" a particular group, but they treat them differently - which is racism.

See definition 2 here:

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/racism

I don't think Obama is racist, but I also do not think Beck is somehow a bad person for having that perspective.

You know - what you could do is look at the examples Beck gives.

I think resedit is a rapist or a fraud or I don't know...

Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.  Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."  They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.

I think these two statements are related.

*edit* I just believe he has exposed himself as a guy--over and over again-- who has a deep seeded hatred for President Obama, or "the others."  I don't know what it is.

"Examples" of what?

One might exhibit an amount of subconscious bias or prejudice towards another group:

prej⋅u⋅dice  [prej-uh-dis]  Show IPA noun, verb, -diced, -dic⋅ing.
–noun
1.    an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.
2.    any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.
3.    unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, esp. of a hostile nature, regarding a racial, religious, or national group.

You're not going to find anyone that agrees the label of "racist" can be neutral or innocent in nature, referring to subconscious beliefs that the individual is unaware exist.

Re: Anecdotal Warning - Living in Glen Beck Nation

Also, definition 2 of your online dictionary, Res, just says:

2.    a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.

What "doctrine"?  Lets look to definitions 1 or 2:

1.    a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
...
3.    hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

SO, you believe Res (based on the dictionary you choose to cite), that Beck intended that either 1) Obama believes African Americans are superior and should have the right to rule others, or 2) hates or is intolerant of whites.

I don't think him losing sponsors is going to be a problem.
He has a very popular show that is growing in popularity, so there are plenty of advertisers who WANT the add space, and the fact is people are boycotting advertisers who boycott his show.

It's not going to be a problem until viewers start boycotting his show.
The opposite is happening.

You could be right about the sponsors he has lost not being an issue but you have ZERO evidence to support your believe that there are, quote "plenty of advertisers who WANT the add [sic] space"

You are assuming, since you and your ilk love the show, that advertisers will want to reach you guys.  You shouldn't make assumptions like that.  All I have seen is that some very large companies do not want to be associated with his drivel.  It brings negative connotations to the overwhelming OVERWHELMING majority of this country that is intelligent enough to be turned off by such hate.

Yes but just about every major company who do tons of TV advertising are very diverse; Coke, Pepsi, Target, IBM, Ford, P&G, etc etc etc...

FOX is probably going to have to lower the price of buying ads since "little" companies can't afford the price that the above mentioned big companies can.

I see it as a pretty big ass deal if someone like Proctor and Gamble (P&G) pulls their adverts.  Good luck boycotting them.

I use to like Beck before he moved to FOX, he is a total asshat now; obviously being influenced by the FOX strong arm.

Wow do you really think you are somehow educating me on the fact that there are racist in the world and that some of them drive? Also what angst are you talking about? I was driving to work minding my own business and some citizen on partrol started in on me. I dont even have a Obama bumper sticker on this car I did nothing to start anything with him unless somehow he is offended at my az cardinals NFC champs sticker tongue.

And with respect to comics about Obama being a socialist, do you not recall the plethora of comics drawing Bush as Hitler? Those kind of political comics are nothing new either.

This I also know this dude can have his own opinions and I dont care it neither breaks my leg nor picks my pocket . What worried me is I am a state employe and this was a state training class. He went out of this way to let his opinion be known in  a state funded class.

Really Res I get called a illegal wet back for driving to work and I should lean out of my car and yell "Damn you Nancy Pelosi for trying to stop this man's free speech!" this and what is happening at town halls are not in any way related. The fact that this guy had a Glen Beck sign again not a bumper sticker but a rather large sign on the back of his truck is probably way more related than town halls happening anywhere. Lets think about this for a second. How often does anyone here look at peoples plates in traffic? Anyone here? It creeps me out how long was he following me? how much info was he trying to gather? why did he feel so entitled to accost me in mid traffic and then make assumptions and call me names?

Res, political jokes are not appropriate in the work place. Second, if this was a state agency, then it's doubly not appropriate.

Only two pages in and the topic is derailed.

Mayhaps, though the topic is about racism and Glen Beck rantings.

If we try real hard, I think we can manage to at least hit the periphery of the thread wink
