Powerbook 12" will not boot, turns off, fan spins crazy
Hello all
I got a powerbook 12" 1.25ghz. It wasnt turned on for a while, i let it charge, but it will not boot. When i press the power button the fans spins for like 1-2 seconds then they die down and nothing happens. I unplug, pull the battery out, put battery back in, replug, try again, and the fans might spin a little longer, maybe for like 10 seconds, and nothing, blank screen. Occationally the hardrive will start kicking but it will still not boot. After numerous tries it actually booted to desktop, I tried doing a leopard re-install, all was going well until in middle of install laptop turned off and the fan(s) were spining like crazy with the screen off. not sure what else to try, it seems to me like a hardware problem, but cannot pinpoint what it could be. any suggestions?

It may be the hard drive that is failing and causing some issues.
I would first reseat the airport card (it's inside a door in the battery compartment) as a loose card can cause boot issues.
It could also be a logic board or RAM issue. You could also try removing any added RAM (the door with four screws on the bottom of the book) and seeing if that makes a difference.
If you are still experiencing issues, we can take a look and let you know exactly what's going on.

Re: Powerbook 12" will not boot, turns off, fan spins crazy
Thanks for the reply. Ok update:
now when i hit the power button I can hear the dvd spin and the eye move, but the screen never turns on, there is power running through the laptop as when i hit the keyboard Caplocks, Numberlocks, the lights turn on. Eventually the dvd stops spinning and nothing else happens. my biggest concern is to try to remove that Leopard Retail Install DVD as I need it for other systems. I noticed that there is NO manual eject button on that drive? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Plug a mouse into the laptop. Boot holding down the mouse.

or you can hold down the trackpad clicker on boot to force eject the disk.

There may be an issue with the disc drive it won't eject the disk when holding down the mouse button.
