I've long time talked about distorted perspectives based upon what media reports.
Global Warming threads for example.

Maybe you ought to pull your head out of the concordance and pay a little attention to the culture that surrounds your faith.

The bible doesn't actually say anything explicit against pre-marital sex anyway.

I think this fact combined with the fact that the bible has a lot of negative stereotypes of women might cause women not to take certain parts as seriously...

Res, speaking as a young man active in the church, Pariah's right.  I've been there and seen both sides.

It depends upon the church.
Many churches hire young youth pastors who themselves still have some growing up to do and don't keep things in line.

Also - many youth at church are not there because they want to be. Thus they are bored, and turn to flirting etc. to pass the time.

Furthermore, I think you are neglecting things like clubs and raves where un-churched kids specifically go to be promiscuous.

If anything, I'm surprised that young men are actually abstinate more than the general population.  I think you underestimate youthful lust.

Equivalents to them undoubtedly do, if raves themselves don't.

Re: (Ex-) Miss California sues Miss USA pageant

Let me put it this way - when I was 20 something, the guys didn't talk about going to church to get laid. They talked about going to the Palladium to get laid (which they called the "Getladium".

I went there a few times (but not to get laid) - you had to be 18 to get in but there were clearly people under 18 there. You had to be 21 to buy drinks, but what they did was stamp your hand if you were under 21 - not over. Little nail polish remover and it was gone.

But even w/o alcohol, drugs were easy to acquire inside.

And that's where people of my generation went to find smurf partners. Well, one of several places.

Not as specific as all that- it could easily apply to 'solo activities.'

I'm sorry--was someone actually referring to getting laid "at church" or picking up partners "at church?"  I thought the reference was to church-going youth, not to people physically inside of a church.

And that's where people of my generation went to find smurf partners. Well, one of several places.

Again, confusion...

Let's not forget that there is a strong element of self-masochistic behavior in early Christian culture. The True Believers were very much into pain for pains sake.

And they were also very concerned with property rights, which gets muddied if you sleep around.

The colloquial name for that is "smurf".

Re: (Ex-) Miss California sues Miss USA pageant

Hey. Pre–Jean is in DC this weekend.

Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, Rick Perry, Michelle Bachmann, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Mike Huckabee and Bill O'Reilly are just some of the big names that are gathering for the "Values Voters Summit 2009" in Washington, D.C. this weekend.

On the first day of the summit, however, a beauty queen was the talk of the event.

Carrie Prejean, the former Miss California who blames her loss in the 2009 Miss USA contest on the fact that she stated her opposition to same-sex marriage, told attendees that "even though I didn't win the crown that night, I know that the Lord has so much of a bigger crown in heaven for me."

She said Friday morning that "God had a plan for me that day" that she lost the beauty contest because "he knew I was strong enough to get through all the junk that I've been through." Added Prejean, who is releasing a book in November: "I was a woman who stood up for the truth and people don’t want to admit that. I had the courage and the bravery that a lot of people don’t have.”

There's a vid embed, too. Around the 2:30 mark she says:

It disgusts me....it disgusts me, how some people can be so intolerant.

Woman has no sense of irony, dignity or empathy.

Meanwhile, elsewhere, yesterday:

Though they weren’t citizens until Thursday, these members of the U.S. military had already committed to that part of the oath.

The 74 military members and families of military members, stationed across the state, were welcomed at the Battleship North Carolina by Miss USA Kristen Dalton, of Wilmington, Mayor Bill Saffo, whose mother was an immigrant, and representatives of the U.S. military and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Dalton spoke of what she thought it meant to be a citizen. She said U.S. citizens have the freedom to make choices and are passionate about serving their communities.

“Americans are extremely spirited and are always looking for ways to give back,” she said.
