How can it not find the scanner? It's right next to the radio!

OK, so I am visiting my Mother and scanning in old family photos. She has an HP all-in-one printer/scanner. Yesterday it worked fine. I fired up my Mac laptop and after pressing some random buttons on the printer, scanned in a bunch of photos.

Now the Mac laptop cannot find the printer/scanner. BUT her silly Windows laptop can scan just fine. (Where it stashed the photo file is another issue.) So the printer/scanner is working great.

The printer is not connected to the computer by a cable. I presume it is using BlueTooth? Airport? I cannot manually find the fool thing using the little icons on my Mac toolbar.

POSSIBLE RED HERRING... I was able to make it work the other day. Since then I installed Snow Leopard.

Your thoughts?

Snow Leopard has killed many all-in-one devices. Might want to try and reinstall drivers. Or delete the device in system preferences > print and fax. On the iPhone so can't troubleshoot further. Also try Software Update in the apple menu.

HP says there is no need to install a new driver. In fact it gives acres of advice, which I find confusing. Read along with me.

1. The problem is with Snow Leopard v the HP driver. But you do not need a new driver.
2. The "scan" button on the scanner is not supported. (Roger that, and thanks HP.)
3. My printing works, so I read down to "Scanning with Software Included in Mac OS 10.6"
...opps! And that got it! Great.
