Ignorance of Phil's ignorance.

$5 to $10 games? Great. Easy to learn and simple to play? Terrific. Able to pull them down in minutes, wherever you're at, using your provider's 3G network? Bully for Apple. But that doesn't make games like Guitar Hero: On Tour for the DS--a game that'd be impossible on the iPhone--any less "cool," or its price tag of $30 any more unreasonable.

I don't really like this guys argument. The Apple method seems to be very effective with the low price=greater sales idear, I don't know what crawled up this mans muffler but he doesn't seem to understand the strategy.

Re: Ignorance of Phil's ignorance.

Some people are just Apple haters. And the fact that Apple is now BIG in gaming, even if only with the iPhone and touch, it's something their little poor souls just can't accept.

Does the iPhone has the best games? Maybe, or maybe not, but it does have good games.

Does it have all games? No, but it sure does have LOTS of games, many of them for free.

PLUS, it's great for playing music, videos, and browsing the web, and more with the right apps.

Why couldn't Guitar Hero work on the iphone?  It's just pushing 4 buttons in the correct sequence.  It's basically advanced Simon.  What? NO BUTTONS?  How about pushing 4 spots on the screen?

The iPhone is great at casual games.  One of my favorites is a TIM (The Incredible Machine) clone.  But it's dishonest to claim that it can compete with a DS or PSP (the PSP, especially) for more serious games.  Any gamer would agree.

You can do this on an iPhone?  Simon, yes --Which is another good casual game I've played on the iPhone.  Obviously, you can make a less sophisticated version of Guitar Hero for the iPhone (Touch Touch Revolution is a good GH clone).  But the iPhone isn't a DS replacement, and it's certainly not a PSP replacement.  Heck, the PSP isn't even a DS replacement.  And the iPhone is supposed to replace both?

What is true, is that the iPhone, DS, and PSP all compliment each-other in the mobile gaming market.  No "one" replaces the "other."

Re: Ignorance of Phil's ignorance.

Apple just needs to authorize an add-on that would add a D-Pad or analog joystick and a few buttons to the iPhone/iPod touch. They definitely beat the DS when it comes to graphics and processing power. It also allows a lot of independent and indie developers to make games - Nintendo's licensing terms are draconian, the tools expensive and difficult to use and getting apps approved is an arduous process, not to mention the expensive distribution. Proprietary media needs to go away.

I want to say more, but for the sake of simplicity: Such an add-on doesn't exist.  Therefore Schiller was "reaching for straws," as quoted.  On the other hand, I can't blame the guy for trying.

Re: Ignorance of Phil's ignorance.

Also, I'd like to reinforce that the Guitar Hero: On Tour and Guitar Hero: Decades editions for the Nintendo DS have been, in comparison to their home console brethren, big, fat, smurfing flops. They are also ridiculously simplified compared to those other versions.

You might as well be playing the version of GH that can be downloaded on cell phones (3 lane fretboard).

Ya, no serious gamer will replace their PSP for an iPhone/iTouch unless they had some of the big guns in the industry porting onto it and porting non casual games. Plus you have no traditional controls. Just screen touch. So your increasingly limiting the number and quality of ports from the big dogs.

Apple right now cannot compare with the top dogs. They can only serve the casual gamer/cell phone gamer audience. Yeah they are making a lot of $$$ off these tiny things but they just aren't serious yet. Serious is building an award winning game division, launching your own console, and actually attracting some platform exclusives that are must haves.

The only thing they can seem to compete with atm is Nintendo but thats because Nintendo is on the casual gamer route with the Wii/DS. Its just the exclusive titles that Nintendo owns which set it apart. Till Apple owns its own killer app exclusives, its just a "me too" cell phone company.

Now if we suddenly see Apple buying up 3rd party gaming companies in bulk like M$ did before Xbox, we'll have something to talk about.

Some of the comments on the video are just spectacularly dumb
