Great moments in playtesting

Alright, so I finally bought Dawn of War. One of the missions involves capturing four relic points, and protecting them for 3 minutes from the inevitable counterattack. I suspected this counterattack could be avoided by killing the NPC bases first, then grabbing the four relics against nonexistent opposition. Because that's the way I always do missions like that, ever since Starcraft (woohoo! granddaddy of 'em all!) - clear the map, THEN bring the dude to the mission objective. I don't like surprises.

So, I did that, and for good measure, I dumped the majority of my army on top of the "temple" that looked like the likeliest focal point for some nasty pre-scripted surprise.

Unfortunately, I was right - halfway through the post-mission cutscene (rendered ingame, on the mission map, of course) when the two bad guy bosses are arguing, (of course, they weren't there until the cutscene spawned them - why didn't the other units unspawn, I wonder?) one of my Dreadnoughts walks up behind one of them and turns him into chunky salsa.

(Dreadnoughts have a "special move" melee attack they do every couple cycles, which automatically kills any infantry unit in the game, hit points be damned. It involves picking them up and ripping them in half, and it's pretty amusing.)

The game threw an "unexpected fault" and froze solid.

I guess that's one way to beat the campaign. But I can't help but think the programmers really should have caught that...

That's pretty awesome. I can't believe you only got DoW now though.

Some of my funnest gaming has involved busting scripts. smile

I finally bought it. (Platinum edition, w/ expansions.)
