Can Airport Express wirelessly extend exsisting network?

Hey all, I'm up on the third floor of an old house (read: thick structure), the wireless router for the house is on the main floor, my wireless internet up here is spotty, often I have to tun off airport on my laptop and then turn it right back on to re-aquire the signal, happens about 4-6 times a day... I can get and Airport Express from a friend, if I plug it in on the second floor (without a hardwired ethernet cable) will it extend the signal so then it just comes from there up to me?

Thanks in advance!

Yes. The AirPort Utility application will walk you through this.

trade, what kind of wireless router do you have on your main floor? I have heard that there are some non-Apple routers that are recognized by AirPort Utility and thus can be set up using that, but other than such cases I'm not sure if the AirPort Express can extend a network from anything other than another AirPort device.

You may need to plug in another AE to the wireless router as well.

Hey guys, sorry to have disappeared! I've been out of town and haven't had a chance to jump on this project yet, I will get it going and post either success story or (likely) more questions...

Thanks for the responses thus far!
