Sounds to me like you need a lesson on how to use electrical plugs?

I agree ... who unplugs something by pulling 90 deg off of the direction it was inserted.

I love that the thing comes out. I use the cord plug when I am at my desk and always leave the small flip one in my laptop bag.

The chin on the iMac looks stupid. Hopefully they will chop some of it off for the ucoming revisions. I keep telling my sister-n-law to wait, new better iMacs are on the way any day now!

It is a damn shame the way Apple has gotten so bad with input devices. Time was Apple made the best OEM KBs and mouses. Now Apple hasn't produced a decent mouse in over ten years and the KBs the last 5 or so have gone straight down the crapper.
The only good thing you can say about the Mighty Mouse is that it is better than the puck. Pathetic.

Re: What do you hate about Macs?

I just got a new MBP and I love it for the most part. It depends on the context in which you view them.

I have yet to see a Windows notebook with dedicated graphics that manages to be as thin-and-light as the MBP - those that are tend to cost the same. I actually love the trackpad compared to those on most other laptops. I think using two fingers for a right-click is much better than trying to contort my hand so my thumb can hit a button on the right side of the touchpad. The two-finger scrolling is a much better solution IMHO. They do need a solution for a center-click, but few people actually require it. I have a Mighty Mouse and it's OK, not my first choice but it came with the other Mac in the house. I also use the keyboard and like that. The only thing that bugs me about the mini display port is that Apple no longer includes an adapter. I also need to order a cable for HDMI. The battery life has been great so far, but it's only been a couple days. If I had my way, the optical drive would be replaced with another USB port or two and the ExpressCard slot. I'd gladly use an external for the few times I actually use an optical drive. The new display shows fingerprints and smudges.

I use my laptop as my only system, so a lower-price PC laptop or netbook doesn't cut it. I used to have a separate Windows box for gaming, but gladly got rid of it. The MBP isn't the best gaming rig, but I only use it for games like Spore, WoW and (soon?) StarCraft II. I have the 360 for other games. The MBP works well for programming and coming from a 13" MacBook, I like the increased screen real estate.

I agree, same here. I only use the flip when I'm at the sandwich shop borrowing their Wi-Fi.

- View selections in finder (font size) not remember no matter how many smurfing times I set that smurf as the default.
- Not much else. Just little quirks that never seem to get worked on.

- Verizon, Time Warner Cable, and all similar companies who ignore that Macs exist across their web presence and in tech support channels. For example, if you try to use verizon chat support, and they find out you have a mac (even if it's a DSL connection issue) they make you call instead. I guess I hate that about the companies, not Macs.

Re: What do you hate about Macs?

Hitting the space bar, for 20 years, brought you to the top of an alphabetically sorted list.

Now, in 10.5 and later, it brings up that stupid preview box.

I haven't bothered finding out if there's a way to change it, though.

Apple still hasent figures out what the Finder is suposed to be, spacial or a browser, so it does neither well.

I've got mine plastered in post its! I try to force myself to use note taking programs and stickies but there's just something about seeing all those little bits of paper with hand scribbled notes (with my awful left-handed writing no less!) that just adds that nice lived in feeling to my home office.

Re: What do you hate about Macs?

Expose. I hate, HATE, HATE, HATE Expose. It is the most worthless, annoying, confusing, irritating thing ever. What is the use of having all the windows suddenly go crazy for absolutely no reason? I am reminded of this because my iMac's in the shop, and I'm temporarily using an old G4 tower with a relatively fresh install of 10.4.11 on it. Would somebody remind me, please, how I can permanently disable Expose?

Thank you.

Thank you.

System Preferences -> Exposé & Spaces -> Exposé tab -> Turn all of the "Active Screen Corner" and "Exposé" options to blank.

Myself, I find great value in Exposé, ESPECIALLY when I'm writing a report, and I've got a dozen different Word files open that I need to switch between. (EDIT: Command + ` switches between application windows as well, but you end up cycling a lot if you have many files open. And Word 2008 is kind of buggy with the Command + `...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.)

Remember that Exposé is not just about showing ALL windows (you can disable just that one option if you want). It can also show only Applications windows, such as the example of Word I gave above.

Re: What do you hate about Macs?

My gripe with Mac (besides no Blu-Ray)? FLASH. YouTube on my MacBook, I'll hear the fans roaring without fail. Google Street View? Yeah, that too uses Flash. Same result.

Can we set up a petition to Adobe to improve Flash (if all other reasons for high CPU usage can be ruled out)?

Yep, pretty much. When I get that "We don't support Macs" (Verizon, set-up is the same) I come back with "You do not support computers?" Then I tell the tech what I need and what I'm looking at.

Because there is no response to "Just tell me what the SMTP server address is and its authentication requirements are, please" on their script that they read from.  You have to convince them to allow you to speak to a "real" tech, often called "level 2" or somesuch, and then wait 30 minutes for that person to finish their coffee.

Thank goodness my ISP (AT&T) supports Apple products, for obvious reasons.

FLASH on your MacBook? What about the lack of it all together for all iPhones and Touches. Can't view good websites or stream audio content off of any as they are all FLASH based. Unless you have a Sirius Radio account and download their free app, which of course does not include their best channels. mad
