Yes, but we all know those are scarce or most companies are unwilling to pay for it.

Unfortunately that's too true. Many won't consult with a good UI designer either.

Re: What do you hate about Macs?

I hate when I encounter such sites on the iPhone. Then again is there a single smartphone or mp3 that supports flash. I also hate that my Macbook Air is smashed up. It works incredibly but to be able to view the entire screen I have to hook it up to a tv. I have never encountered any problems using flash on the air. In fact I barely even notice  the computer becoming hotter than usual. Maybe I am just lucky.

Doesn't the MBA use a solid-state drive?  That's a major boon to keeping the whole thing cooled down.

A good web designer looks for something besides flash.

System Preferences -> Exposé & Spaces -> Exposé tab -> Turn all of the "Active Screen Corner" and "Exposé" options to blank.

Thank you for trying to help, but the Active Screen Corners are set to blank, have always been set to blank, and yet the damned thing still interferes with what I'm doing.

Could somebody please tell me how and why my moving the mouse pointer across a Web page just a little bit should ever be interpreted as a command that invokes Expose's stupid behavior?

Arrrrgggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is under 10.4.11, by the way, so there is no Expose tab, and the control panel is known as "Dashboard and Expose," not "Expose and Spaces."

Anyway, as I said, the Active Screen Corners were already set to blank. I've now done the same for "Keyboard and Mouse Shortcuts."

Why is it that so many of these alleged conveniences do nothing but add complexity and headaches? Expose should be something that is off by default, and turning it on and off should be a simple matter of clicking a radio button that says "turn Expose on/off" instead of having to muddle through individually setting each Active Screen Corner to blank, especially given that setting each Active Screen Corner to blank doe not solve the problem!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have I mentioned that I am not a huge fan of Expose?

Hey, Bren, did you turn off the side-buttons on your mouse?

Re: What do you hate about Macs?

I just tried squeezing the side buttons, and doing so did not invoke Expose. It made a weird little target thingy appear, which caused this page to scroll up and down when I moved the mouse up and down.

Thanks for the idea, though. I think I will disable those buttons just for good measure.

Re: What do you hate about Macs?

You have to configure the squeeze to expose.

Re: What do you hate about Macs?

I'd like to find the subhuman slime who invented Expose and go up to him and be like, "Hey buddy! I got somethin' you can squeeze right here!"

But of course that would lead to yet another indecent-exposure-on-the-Apple-campus arrest for me.

Re: What do you hate about Macs?

I hate that Macs don't regularly smurf up their own installation, regularly, even when using a downloaded copy of an upgrade. I mean, really, can't they fail to meet the same low standards that Microsoft fails to achieve?

Try this site on a Touch or iPhone.

Re: What do you hate about Macs?

Oh, and my wife just got a Canon CP 780 which apparently there are no current drivers for it to make it work under SL. (I've read it works as advertised under 10.5). It really sucks when your wife has to transfer photos out of iPhoto on a thumb drive, and then use her Windows IBM laptop to print them out. Wtf Canon and Apple (for Apple "It just works" campaign - oh really now)? This printer has only been out 6 months! Write a smurfing driver/have one ready out of the box! (My wife pointed out that "It says on the box that Macs are supported") My much older Canon regular (e.g., text printer) has worked without skipping a beat when I upgraded to SL and it is connected on a second daisy-chained USB.

Embarrassing - my wife is frustrated the few times she uses my MBP when I tell her how great it is. I have my iPhoto collection as well as my iTunes on external hard drives and info is flowed of a pure N network. iPhoto still (again, under a N network which is the fastest possible) takes like 30 seconds to open. I tell my wife it is b/c I had to move my data to the external due to HD space issues. Still, she is always like, "Why is this taking so long to open?!" I thought they were to fix delays in network connections. I guess Apple just meant external HD discovery b/c that is the only improvement I see in this regards.

It is a damn shame the way Apple has gotten so bad with input devices. Time was Apple made the best OEM KBs and mouses. Now Apple hasn't produced a decent mouse in over ten years and the KBs the last 5 or so have gone straight down the crapper.
The only good thing you can say about the Mighty Mouse is that it is better than the puck. Pathetic.

This is one thing I can't figure out... for a company that makes such good computers, why in the hell do they make this stupid mouse? Someone needs to slap the designer of this mouse in the back of the head, "dumb ass... try again!"

Everything else I love.  Man ever since I up graded my Fios speed to 30mb down/15mb up this computer flies surfing the web making my web experience awesome. I know this has nothing to really do with my computer, but it puts a hell of a smile on my face. big_smile
