Yes there is. It's right next to the Nobel Peace Prize in Science.

Re: Obama wins Nobel
... hmmm
DNC: Steele And GOP Have Thrown In Their Lot With The Terrorists By Criticizing Obama’s Nobel
The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists — the Taliban and Hamas this morning — in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize. Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize — an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride — unless of course you are the Republican Party. The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It’s no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore – it’s an embarrassing label to claim.

Then why don't we have magnets and copper wire strung around him yet so that he can solve the world's energy crisis?

Re: Obama wins Nobel
People who should've won but didn't
This bit, explaining Gandhi's failure to win, was rather interesting, given the present context:
Gandhi made the Nobel short list three times: in 1937, 1947, and then posthumously in 1948. In 1937, the committee's advisor criticized Gandhi's dual role as a peace activist and political leader of an independence movement, writing that he "is frequently a Christ, but then, suddenly, an ordinary politician."
As India and Pakistan achieved independence in 1947, Gandhi's crowning triumph was tempered by the violence and dislocation that resulted. With tensions growing in the summer of 1947, the Nobel committee hesitated to award the peace prize to someone so closely identified with one of the combatants. The committee also seems to have been affected by regional and racial biases; most of the prior awards had been given to white European men.
An ordinary politician? Why, that's awful!

Fair enough.
Anyway I think it should be okay for Obama to accept the prize. I think of it as an honourary doctorate.

Bah, he's in Washington. The Nobel Prize is chump change compared to what politicians-turned-lobbyists make.

I don't have a problem with him accepting it.
It would be dis-respectful for him to refuse it.

Alfred Nobel commercialized nitroglycerin, in particular the shock stable mixture of nitroglycerin and diatomaceous earth or sawdust called dynamite.
Trinitrotoluene, or TNT is a complete different molecule.
Nitogycerine is nitrated glycerine, TNT is nitrated toluene.

dam that TNT, it just went out and kilt all those people.
errr i prefer to think that "man" had something to do with the killing and gunpowder had a pretty good head start.
and unless i miss my guess, gunpowder would still hold the lead.
right after automobiles killing people.

Re: Obama wins Nobel
He invented dynamite for mining, not for killing. I think it's a bit dismissive to say that he "only created the prize to brush up his image" rather than out of a sense of horror at what his invention had become.
