If she already had plans (and she probably does), have flowers delivered to her house. Nobody ever does that any more, so it impresses the Hell out of a girl when somebody does.

I went dv's way. She liked it. It hurt my wallet a little since she had a lobster and later we had a cake. Now to take her to her party which luckily was planned to start in half an hour. We had to stop. I am doing the driving so posting ought to be hard.

I am totally with Bren on the flowers. You can never go wrong with flowers.
Women love Love LOVE getting flowers. You don't need to be ostentatious or spend a lot of money. Most florists will have a selection of beautiful tea roses that won't set you back much. A small cluster of 3 or 4 shouldnt cost more than $5-$10 bucks.
Most men never give flowers except on special occasions or if they smurfed up. A few roses for no special reason really hits the spot and sets you apart from the clods she has been dating.

I wasn't suggesting that. My point was that if he wanted to do something at the very last minute, and perhaps even hide the fact that he'd forgotten her birthday, he could have flowers delivered to her. That it was her birthday, i.e., a special occasion, would make the flowers seem like a fairly normal thing to do, as opposed to being completely over the top.
Regarding cost, if I'm having flowers delivered, I just assume it's going to be a financial bloodletting. Bringing a girl flowers is one thing, 'cause any Safeway supermarket has all manner of bouquet for every price range. When you have them delivered, however, anything halfway decent is gonna start off kinda pricey, and there will be add-ons, such as a pretty vase or whatever, that will only increase the expense. This is just how it is, and I don't think there's any way around it.
Here in San Francisco, I used to be in the habit of using a company called Rose Express, which was cool because they'd deliver a dozen chocolate roses, and if I played my cards right, the recipient would let me eat one or two myself. I'm not sure if that company's around anymore, however, and they were just in SF.
Anyway, if any of you guys need any more woman-wooing pointers, feel free to ask. Think of me as your incredibly wise love guru.

Flowers, huh? I guess that is a good idea. I just don't think it is the right time for that yet. Plus I still have to find a nearby florist. I am not gonna travel to another part of this tiny island just to buy flowers.

Wait until there is a real reason for flowers. Like a real relationship, or some special occasion in her life that is appropriate. Flowers are good for congratulations too.
