I think she has the thought because I work in a place where I could be prone to one of those. Alcohol.

She probably also thinks it will adversely affect my grades

OK, maybe I'm not being fair. I'm sure somebody more level-headed than me would encourage you to have a conversation with her about just what her concerns are, only they wouldn't urge you to be so confrontational and angry the way I did.

So yeah, let your mom vent about her concerns. Assure her that she didn't raise any dummies.

Do not, however, and I can't stress this enough, do NOT fall into the trap of making any kind of agreement with her that you'll be allowed to date as long as you keep your grades up. Your grades are what they are, and there are myriad things which could affect them.

Any parent trying to control their kid's love life might as well be attempting to change the ocean's tides.

You may think Mom's negotiating from a position of strength, but she isn't.

In most things, but especially in human affairs, power and control are mostly illusions.

Booze, yes. But how, pray tell, is sex going to hurt somebody's grades? Is it your assertion that somebody might just spend so much time maddly doing The Wild Thing that there'd be no time left over for studying?

I guess it could happen.

But those would be some very happy, underachieving students!

Well yeah. Crazy bitches* will always mess up your grades, along with every other aspect of your life.





*You know me; I am the guy who scolds other guys for using the B-word. But in this case, "crazy woman" or "crazy girl" didn't quite convey the dynamic I was talking about. Believe you me, I know from crazy bitches.

Actually, it just got a lot easier.

Because now you don't have to worry about impressing her or taking her anywhere or screwing it up and so on. You can focus on other concerns.

She doesn't necessarily dislike you.  Teenaged girls are flighty.  She may also be ignoring you on purpose, to try to get you to go out of your way to initiate conversation with her.
