HEARTLESS liberal attacks opponent's weight.
Yes, apparently making fun of people's weight is all right if it keeps you in office.
Yes, Democrat Jon Corzine, facing the possibility of getting voted out has sunk to the lowest of lows by attacking his opponent's WEIGHT. Yes, NPR (read: not Republican journalism) reported on this scumbag who is resorting to hideous personal attacks.

Re: HEARTLESS liberal attacks opponent's weight.
In an ad, Corzine attacks his Republican opponent: "Christie threw his weight around as U.S. attorney and got off easy. If you didn't pay your taxes, ignored ethics laws, would you get away with it?"
Not sure that qualifies as a hideous personal attack ...

Well, if you can't beat 'em on the issues...
It is an odd thing, but every one who disappears is said to be seen at San Francisco. It must be a delightful city, and possess all the attractions of the next world.

New Jersey
I still believe in liberalism today as much as I ever did, but, oh, there was a happy time when I believed in liberals.

As always, someone didn't read the whole thing:
"To make fun of someone's physical shape, I don't think we've ever seen that in New Jersey," Zukin says. "And the Corzine ads are pretty brutal. I mean, they'll show this guy getting out of a car, you know, with his back end coming at you. And what the Corzine campaign is trying to argue is if he doesn't have enough self-discipline to govern his own weight, how can he possibly govern the state of New Jersey?"

As a forum member who can see New Jersey from my kitchen windows, I somehow don't think this is a "macaca" moment in politics.

Did the Corzine campaign actually say that? Or is it just another in a long series of right-wing hissy fits?

Hissy fit? You mean like how Rush Limbaugh didn't say some of the things he was accused of saying, and when called on it by a black man, he was called an Uncle Tom?

Re: HEARTLESS liberal attacks opponent's weight.
This commercial played for two weeks in the Philly/South Jersey media market. The mocking of weight is definitely in the ad, but it's also a play on words about the issue that's stalled and/or tanked Christie's poll numbers so it's not like it's irrelevant. The other problem with Christie is from the beginning of his campaign he's attacked Corzine in the context of the current economic climate, while offering no real solutions himself.
But seriously, this isn't odd for a political campaign in the Philly/New Jersey/NYC contiguous metro areas. In fact, something similar happened here in Philadelphia in the past 15 years. I'm not sure that the Zukin quote that MysticCow is hanging his highmindedness on in this thread is all that reflective of local politics. And, of course, if it was so over the line and outrageous in that context you'd see it reflected in the most current polling, which of course it's not. All hat, no cattle I'm afraid Miss Cow.

Corzine is taking the low road that's for sure.
Act of desperation if you ask me.

Regardless, it's hardly at the extreme end of American political rhetoric.

I would use a phrase that starts in a similar phrase to a certain african water mammal, but the name calling rule hear isn't fairly applied and I'm on the wrong end up the stick.

Following up on Shnicky's comment about "extreme end of American political rhetoric" and giving an example: NAZI!
