The game is on ... midterm elections

With mid-term elections a year away, Republicans already have their sights set on certain dems to try and dethrone.

Re: The game is on ... midterm elections

It is the year 2011. The United States has become saturated with suspicion and unrest. Since early 2010, President Barack Obama, President Felipe Calderon of Mexico, and Prime Minister Stephan Harper of Canada have been conducting private meetings with each other and various political heads of the U.N. None of the meetings are open to the media, let alone the public.

Americans, thoroughly disgusted with the socialistic programs that have been thrust upon them over the last few years, vote out seventeen of the nineteen Democrats in the Senate and 178 in Congress that were up for reelection.

The secrecy of the President became an issue tacked onto the political platforms of candidates running for the Senate and Congress in the November 2010 elections. Americans, thoroughly disgusted with the socialistic programs that have been thrust upon them over the last few years, vote out seventeen of the nineteen Democrats in the Senate and 178 in Congress that were up for reelection. When asked for his opinion on this monumental power shift in favor of liberty-minded Republicans during the November elections, President Obama is quoted as saying the elections were "ultimately inconsequential;" he allowed the cryptic statement to stand alone and said nothing more on the subject until January's swearing-in ceremony.

They just might succeed. The Dems have proven pretty inept at this whole governance thing.

And this is different because...?

Seriously: has there been any recent US election year where one party has not targetted vulnerable members of the other party?

Teabaggers are already savaging things (for other Republicans) for 2009.  Maybe the trend will continue.

Re: The game is on ... midterm elections

The majority party practically always looses some seats in the off year.
It will be interesting to see how the Republicans stratigy of going ape smurf over everything will work.
Oh, and...
Every time I see something like "liberty-minded Republicans" said I chuckle at the irony. The party of reaction and the religious right posing as the freedom party. The irony is thick.

This happens every election cycle.  The weak are targetted by the opposing party (I'm sure the Democrats are winding up for their "easy picks" too).

Americans, thoroughly disgusted with the socialistic programs that have been thrust upon them over the last few years,

What exactly does this mean? What socialist programs?
If there has been a wave of socialism sweeping the country I would like to know where and how.

As I suspected, all just a figment of the right's fevered imagination.

Here is where we really come up hard against the general ignorance of the American public. Practically all of the "problems" with the Obama admin are predictions or assumptions on the part of the right.
There is also the question of why it is that so many people are so smurfing scared of "socialism" when other western nations that are far more socialist than the USA have robust democracies, healthier people and higher standards of living.
The thoughtful observer might conclude that as much as Communism was proved unworkable in the last 20 years so has Free Market Capitalism because the only countries really advancing in recent years have all been Democratic Socialist.
Capitalism is another failed ideology, in the waste bucket of history for the most part, except in the USA, which is suffering for it's backwardness.

We are not those other countries and the standard of living is not necessarily attributed to the "more socialism".

It's also not uncommon for the wealthy in those countries to come to America for certain medical procedures, and I suspect our standard of living here is brought down somewhat by large influx on illegal immigrants who frequently live in squalor.

Europe has illegal immigration issues too.  In fact, I'd say that they're way more exposed to the issue than the US as EU borders are extremely porous.  Greece alone has four times more miles of coastline than what you find with the US/Mexican border, and that's just one country.

Even if you are right, standard of living is a materialistic index at the higher end, and materialism is greed.
