The modern day tea party, which officially refer to themselves as "tea party" and therefore tea party is the proper way to refer to them, are using tea party in reference to the Boston Tea Party. Whether the analogy is correct or not is moot.

I hear members of the African American community refer to each other by a certain term that starts with N all the time.
The fact that SOME of them do it is not justification for me or you or anyone else to refer to them that way, is it?

Hell - the CP in NAACP stands for "Colored People" but it would be incorrect for me to call them Colored People, because of the connotation of what Colored People means.

Tea Bagger is no different. The connotation is a gross sexual reference and it is not appropriate to refer to them that way.

Dripping in... something.

So... its OK for you guys to call the "Democratic Party" the "Democrat Party", but not ok to call folks that talk about "teabagging" officials "teabaggers"?

For crying out loud, I never made that claim and you damn well know it.

btw - that's the difference between you and me.
I try to make light of the situation and diffuse it by making a joke referencing a tea rumored to have aphrodisiac properties and heighten erotic experiences, and you have to continue arguing to be a prick.

I don't know to be honest.
I might try some myself though, I like trying different kinds of teas.

The plant looks an aweful lot like a plant that grows up here, I'm going to have to identify it and ask the local Wintu if it is safe to consume and in what doses.

Re: Regarding "tea-baggers..."

I was briefly friendly with this girl who was a real drama queen. One night she phoned in a state of distress, saying she'd taken some sort of "sex drug," and was having a bad reaction. I went over to her house, read the active ingredients, and tried not laugh as I informed her she'd consumed pure tree bark.

Some tree barks have quite a bite. In fact, there are several poisons that can be made by distilling certain barks.

Re: Regarding "tea-baggers..."

Regarding my friend:

Any time a girl phones to tell me she's taken some sort of sex drug and is in need of assistance, I'll be happy to come right over!

What she'd taken was one of those packets of "male enhancement" pills that they sell at the counters of Quick Stops and 7-11 stores. The only ingredient listed was yohimbine, if I remember correctly.

Regarding the analogy Res was making: it seemed pretty clear to me.

Re: Regarding "tea-baggers..."

I've always had a big problem with the "Original" Boston Tea Party, at least the way I learned it.

A bunch of guys are pissed off at the English for taxing the hell out of them, so they decide to protest by throwing the Brit's precious tea into Boston Harbor.

"Ooh! What if the Brits see us?" asks one.

"I know! We'll dress as Indians! That way if we are seen, the Brits will think it's them!"

What a bunch of smurfing racists.

If they'd had any real balls (pun intended) they would have gone onto the British ships dressed as Americans.

Re: Regarding "tea-baggers..."

One can choose to understand the Boston Tea Party as a protest against government bailouts... Normally, the British taxed tea imports into North America. Tea smugglers were able to undercut the price of  tea by smuggling nontaxed tea from Dutch ports. But to prop up the finances of the British East India Company, the British government granted them an exemption from the tea tax, which allowed them to undercut the Dutch tea. Many of the party goers  were, in fact, tea smugglers who would be outcompeted by the government sponsored firm. Dumping the tea into the harbor meant that the BEIC had nothing to sell.

I suppose that if "Cash for Clunkers" were limited to GM and Chrysler, the parallels would be stronger.

"Tea baggers" came about because the modern day protests mailed stale, or even used, low-grade  teabags into congressional offices. If only the protesters  had taste

Does the label matter when the contents are recycled incoherence ?

Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.  Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."  They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.
