Another Psystar "Meta Update"
This arrived in today's e-mail. I sure hope Psystar's ability to write code is better than their written communication...
Rebel EFI: Coming to a PC near you
Following the announcement of our OEM licensing initiative, we have received an overwhelming number of users inquiring about individual licenses. And yes, while our OEM program remains exclusive to manufacturers, Psystar is excited to announce the release of Rebel EFI allows [SIC] anyone to boot any OS easily on their computer.
Rebel EFI software will allow users to easily boot and install Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and even Mac OS X on their machines and is available for download at Psystar.com . The full version comes with the Darwin Universal Boot Loader, which allows for the installation of up to 6 different operating systems on a single machine. Rebel EFI is free to download and try, but with limited functionality. The installation of the OS will not be permanent nor complete, as not all drivers are become [SIC] available until the program is purchased. Once an account becomes authenticated, Rebel EFI will begin to automatically update as new drivers and supported hardware configurations become available, and the Safe Update tool allows for approved updates directly available from Apple.
Rebel EFI uses the same new virtualization technology Psystar uses to install Snow Leopard on their machines. This software allows for the seamless integration of the OS and generic Intel hardware and provides for the easy installation of OS X. Simply download, burn the application a CD, and install using your retail copy of the Snow Leopard DVD.
Head over to Psystar.com for more information, or download Rebel EFI.
You asked. We've answered.
Many of our previous customers have asked about upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard. With Rebel EFI, users are able to easily upgrade from their current systems to the newest flavor of Mac OS X easily.
Let me make sure I'm understanding you. You say I can easily upgrade easily?
Rebel EFI has been tested extensively on our legacy systems and is known to have complete compatibility with our hardware.
Visit our website to try a free version of Rebel EFI. The demo version will allow for the installation and running of Mac OS X for up to two hours with limited hardware functionality. Like what you see? Purchase an authentication to unlock the full potential of the software including the DUBL, "Safe Update" technology, and a built in support interface. For more information, visit Psystar.com or email licensing@psystar.com.
So even if I've previously paid anywhere from several hundred to a few thousand dollars for a Psystar computer, you're still going to charge me $49.95 for the privilege of being able to upgrade to Snow Leopard? Don't you think anybody who's had enough faith in your dodgy scheme to actually give you money deserves a free copy of Rebel EFI?
Psystar Lab's techs are here to help
Along with the release of Rebel EFI, Psystar is set to begin its Psystar Labs approval program. This will allow users to help ensure the compatibility of devices with their machines with the Mac OS.
Another grammatically unfortunate sentence.
Users who have purchased the software would be permitted to participate in the approval program.
They would be? But... they're not? Oh, my mistake; it's just more bad grammar.
As part of the support for Rebel EFI, customers will be able to send in hardware is not yet configured. [SIC] Through Rebel EFI's ticket wizard, users will be able to contact one of our Psystar Lab technicians, who will send you the documentation to have your device sent in and inspected for compatibility.
Shouldn't that read, "...you will be able to contact one of our Psystar Lab technicians..."?
But never mind that. Much more amusing than the grammar is the notion that you expect me to ship my peripherals to you. On the one hand, I guess it's admirable that you're willing to go to this much trouble, but...
You want me to ship my peripherals to you!
Vote for your favorite video while you still can
Back in July we started a contest for our users to make the best video ad representing Psystar. Though the submission period ended back on Septmeber 21st, we have since compiled all the videos over at 800beers.com. The voting period for the entries ends on October 31st so be sure to visit and pick your favorite.
The winner of the contest stands to win a Nahelem based Open7, so make sure to show your support and vote for your favorite video over at 800beers.com now!
The winner stands to win an Open7? Meaning once you've won the contest, there is then the possibility that you might get a prize?
And what's this "while you still can" business? That's the kind of thing you say when you're a character on a soap opera urging somebody to "stop (drinking/doing drugs/cheating/gambling/impersonating your twin) while you still can!"
Moreover, I think I feel a YouTube parody coming on...

Re: Another Psystar "Meta Update"
This sounds interesting. I was looking through the installation instructions. You can essentially do the same thing with Chameleon and BOOT 132, but Rebel EFI probably makes it a little easier to get going.

I'd watch that parody of yours.
Thank you. I didn't mean, actually, to imply that I had one in the works. I guess I should have just said, "This screams for a YouTube parody."

Re: Another Psystar "Meta Update"
Do you actually have a psystar? Or are you just on their mailing list?
