That usually makes them think. The most resource-intensive thing most people do regularly is a virus scan.
Tell me about it. I wait 1 full hour each morning that I choose to
boot up my work PC rather than pull it out of standby because of
"rtvscan.exe" - why they don't make that during a schedulable
hour (whether Symantec, Mcafee, Eset, Trend Micro, etc.) I will
never know...

Leave it on overnight. They usually auto-exec at 2AM or so.
Admittedly, it needs to be done regularly, but can't you cancel it and do it later?

Re: Why I switched to the Mac from the PC
I use Windows when I am in school.
Mac build OS 3.1 for iPhone when I am on the go or when a computer is not available.
Mac when mine was still alive or when I go to dads office. If I have the choice, I'll take the Mac.
Incredibly I have been able to do most of my school work that requires a computer on my iPhone.

Sounds exactly like me.
I was caught off guard today when one of my ultra-PC friends called me a "Mactard" when he saw my MBP. Then I lol'd. Hard.
And me...on my Mac...
Pro Tower
My mac tower has crashed more then my vista laptop by a 10 to one ratio....

That's weird. Either you got an extremely defective Mac Pro or
a super bug-less vista tower. Whatever is the case you are the "chosen one" in a bad way.

Yes - I do leave both my work PC's on overnight but
cringe on those weekly days (1x per week or two) when
I have to reboot in order to get the SMS pushes and
the resultant RTVSCAN.
I heard my boss really pissed about RTVSCAN the other day
and showed exactly what was happening - I opened a ticket
for the PC team so that they could analyze why it would ever run
every morning for anyone instead of at lunch or some time of
personal choice.

Good job, squeaky wheels and all that. There's no reason it needs to do that.
There's also no reason you shouldn't have a computer so fast that you don't notice the virus scan in the background, however...

My Vista machine is a laptop, the mac is a tower. To be fair i've had a number of hardware problems that Dell had to replace the laptop on. so.
Vista laptop:
Good stable os, bad hardware
Mac tower:
Good stable hardware, bad os (and its 10.5 not snow leopard, the GPU isn't even Snow Leopard certified!)

Re: Why I switched to the Mac from the PC
Sorry my mistake. Still Vista running well and Leopard being problematic is very weird. How about you backup your data and reinstall the OS.

As it's a production machine that's a pretty big job, with close to 2 TB of data to manage well it's somthing i need a really good reason to tell the bosses "i need to come in saterday"

Re: Why I switched to the Mac from the PC
I thought it was your personal Mac Pro. So the Vista laptop is the one you have at home? Do you have any Macs at home?
From here on out I can't help you much specially with your boss.

Actually the reason I can't help much is because I am 16 and have no experience with a boss other than my dad.

True, most of your experience is not going to work on a Boss. They don't give a damn about you, unlike parents.
