Un-Marking Topics as New

I don't think this is included in the Discussions here, it's in regards to how long the Forum takes to automatically un-mark New Threads. If I sit down after a few days to catch up on all of the fabulousness here, but I wander off for say 40 minutes, why do all of those shiny New Threads get marked Read?? There goes the handy Jump to Newest Post link as well. Is it a customizable option on my end, or is it an arbitrary setting in the Forum software?

I believe it is a forum default. 24 hours and it that starts from the last time you were logged on.

Re: Un-Marking Topics as New

24 hours from login? Here's a for instance:

I last logged in Thursday evening, and I haven't come back since tonight at like 8pm. I sat down to dinner shortly (about 30 minutes) and when I picked up reading a previously un-read Section, all the posts in that Section were marked Read. So, is it like a 20-30 minute window from hitting the main Forum Index before that happens?

There may also be a timer that increments over a 12 or 24 hour period. I am not privy to the inner sanctum and can only provide conjecture. So you may find that the unreads are lost when you cross the arbitrary line of one day to the next.

Annoys me too. Didn't used to be that way; obligates folks to do everything in one shot or lose their place[s].

However, wild cards seem to work again in Search. That's something.
