I've never wanted a BMW X5, but...

Any car that can do this, and then get itself out of that mess and be hastily driven off has got to be pretty darned rugged:

Awesome parking lot hit-and-run

I wonder how the driver managed to mess up so badly in the first place? I'm guessing a cell phone was involved, or alcohol or drugs.

Pithy, I found a way around Bren's bad link. Just reload the page. Sadly the iPhone doesn't have flash and that means I can't view the video. Can you find me a YouTube link if possible and if one exists?

YouTube version and one without that pesky ad in front.

What I see is that the driver was probably not yet familiar with the foot pedals and intended to hit the brakes but hit the gas instead. She--the comment on YouTube said that "the female driver was charged [on October 22]"--was still an ass for leaving.

Re: I've never wanted a BMW X5, but...

Holy smurf! The BMW got out scratch free! Notice how the driver confused the pedals, accelerated and drove over the speed bump, causing the suv to do a wheelie and land on the Pontiac and Hyundai. Then the driver backs up, pauses and admires his or her new careers beginning as a monster truck driver and simply leaves. This video made
LMFAO so many times and it made me laugh out loud a lot.

Oh, I bet that the BMW didn't get out scratch-free. It looks like there was some front end damage and considerable though probably mostly cosmetic damage underneath.

And I bet the wheel alignment was shot to hell too.

Not enough to destroy it or even make tough to drive. Wheel alignment can be fixed at Pep Boys. So that is not much of an issue.

That first link is working just fine for me. Yeah, there's an ad, but you still get to see the video.

Not me. As posted earlier my iPhone doesn't have flash so YouTube or Quicktime are my only options.

FOLLOW-UP: Hyundai Canada sees viral video and does something about it (YouTube video).

That is a pretty nice warm-fuzzy by Hyundai, I must say.

Re: I've never wanted a BMW X5, but...

It's nice that the dude didn't completely freak out and start jumping up and down and hyperventilating the way so many idiots on TV do when they win something.

I must say, however, that the ugly, SUV-like exterior of that Elantra Touring is just a bitter reminder of how much nicer the previous Elantra GT was. They eliminated a wonderfully affordable, good-looking performance car for that soft, bloated blandmobile? Why, Hyundai, why?
