Which MacOS do you spend most of your time in?
Time spent playing UT doesn't count
So how about it?

Re: Which MacOS do you spend most of your time in?
Just until recently I spend more time in X than in 9. Thanks to music production apps I stay in X most of the time, even for games since the only thing I play is StarCraft and emulation and both run very well on my iMac.
Soon it'll all be OS X because I'm getting an eMac.
As a second most used system is windows 2000, for school and yes it sucks.
PS: I only use classic for very old games and Director 8.5.1 (again, school is making me use this app, need to have Director MX).

I'm in the same boat as Taxx. We both have sucky computers for running X in, but all we do is play StarCraft and attempt to be productive (I usually fail in that respect
)
So X is good for me

If I didn't have a fast enough machine for UT for OS X to run at least mediocre, my time in OS 9 would be much more. But thankfully, my GeForce 4 MX pulls it off.

Re: Which MacOS do you spend most of your time in?
I'm in X all day at work and all night at home. We have a doofy Novell network on the job, but I get by using their web mail so I don't have to boot OS 9 for Novell's years-out-of-date email client, Groupwise. At least the money's not going to Microsoft.
I boot 9 for UT only, although I do miss OS 9's elegance, popup windows, speedy redraws, etc. I don't really want to look at a web page on anything other than a Quartz -smoothed OS X sytem anymore; pages just look silly and amateurish now in Win2k/XP or OS 9 with all that jaggy text. Flash in OS X is still pretty painful, but the very latest Flash plugin seems to be a slight improvement.

At Home its X all the way, except for when I need to use Quark (average about 5 days a month) I boot into 9.
At my new Job, we use 9, but that is gonna change really soon, because we just ordered four Dual 1.25ghz G4's, each with one 22" Cinema, and one 17" studio display. And all we use all day is PhotoShop and Illustrator. both which run just as well in X as they do in 9.

Unfortunately, my G4 is still in a box, so it's been mostly linux and Windows XP for me.

Re: Which MacOS do you spend most of your time in?
Only reason I boot to OSX= Games that need OpenGL
Only reasons I boot to OS9= UT with Glide rendering, OS9 only games, Photoshop Elements goofing around
, typing things, scanning stuff, whenever OSX gets irritated with my hardware and wont boot properly
.
All in all if OSX was/had: a lil more reliable on my system (G4 upgrade might help that), have a new copy of Appleworks, working scanner software, Photoshop Elements 2, and a fully working version of UTX. Id be rarely, if ever, booting to OS9.

I'd like to be running in OS X, but my 400Mhz B&W just doesn't have the juice.
Here's to future upgrades...

Re: Which MacOS do you spend most of your time in?
I've tried to run X, but both installs have gone south. The first install was X.0 and work well (longer than X.2 did). Then it died and quit booting. When X.2 came I did a format and new install (have X on it's own HD). Worked for about a week and now no longer boots too. The other problem was that Classic wouldn't launch (exten. conflict). Between these two problems I've given up on X for the time being. I may make it a new year's resolution tho.

Re: Which MacOS do you spend most of your time in?
Hey Moof im running Jag on a Beige at 375Mhz. It runs ok, could be better. For the games it works fine. Cept UTX. It is a lil slower than X.1.5 in many areas but the Classic mode. Classic mode in X.2 is much faster.
You can definatly use it for basic stuff and some OSX games, but your right, you would need more juice if you wanted to run it real smooth. G4 would do it. Unless...you ever think about overclocking your B&W Moof? Or is it OCed already? If not you could probably get another 50Mhz out of it. Gamblor I think has a B&W that he OCed.

Oh, I've tested 10.2 on my system but the time I lose while waiting for normal things to happen (app launches, OS navigation, screen redraws, etc.) just isn't worth the OS jump. My productivity takes a definite hit when I try to run X on my trusty G3.

MoofMeal 9 is already OCed to 400Mhz (up from 350).
I'm in no rush to make the move to X. Aside from the "ooh, ahh, up-to-date" factor, there is simply no compelling reason for the switch just yet.

Re: Which MacOS do you spend most of your time in?
Yeah your right, all the simple stuff is a way slower than 9 for old macs like we got. Just try thinking about running OSX at 300Mhz
. I originally was running it at 300Mhz before I OCed to 375. Man you cant imagine how horribly slow OSX is in 300Mhz (and there are ppl out there that run it at 233
). I actually gained a lot of use out of OSX when I boosted my speed. Just a measly 75Mhz made everything feel so nice.

Are you running the command-line version of SETI X? If it's just sitting there doing packets, you might as well have it doing it as best as it can.

Re: Which MacOS do you spend most of your time in?
Even after not counting my time playing Unreal Tournament, I still can conclude that I spend most of my time in Mac OS 9 because it's not as damned slow as OS X (i got a 333MHz computer, don't laugh).
My new laptop:
1.8 GHz Athlon 64 Processor
512 MBs of RAM
64 MB nVidia Geforce4 440 chipset (not shared with system ram) (hauls @$$ though
)
40 Gig HD
15.4" Widescreen Display
Wireless 802.11g card (builtin)

MadCow, I have a 333 Mhz mac aswell and os x isn't slow. Ok it's slower than an iBook but I can use it. Especially Jaguar feels faster.
My setup is: iMac 333 (Blueberry) 160 MBRam 60 Gig HD Mac OS X.2.2

Maybe for you, i just think OS 9 is ok. I use OS X, but it's such a pain in the @$$ to go from X to 9 to play UT that I decided to stay in 9. I still keep my installation of Mac OS X hanging around just in case.
