Re: Apple will switch to Intel CPU's (Article OPINION)
Is there some sort of automatic timer that ticks off the seconds until another "Mac goes x86" opinion piece?
When the PPC970 is an infinitely better option, who seriously thinks Apple will go x86? We've already covered this about 10 million times around here, so we should all know the arguments for and against off by heart.
Dvorak is a peanut (but a peanut with a column in a magazine). If you want to know how good a pundit is, check their past predictions for accuracy. Nearly every single computer pundit looks rather foolish, whether they're pro-Mac, pro-PC, or whatever. They almost never get it right over timeframes larger than twelve months.
Eighteen months is stretching things far beyond belief. If Apple were to go x86 in eighteen months, they could start today and still do it inside that timeframe.

Regardless, Apple is up to something.
As evidence, look at the OS update front. We used to know basically every new feature months, even years, before the OS was released.
Why the secret with 10.3?
The OS must bring something significant enough that they don't want to spoil the surprise now or if the features were announced it would kill sales.

I have to admit, though, if a magazine paid me to talk smurf, I would.
No one would respect me but that's what alter-egos are for. Woo.
I'm going to slap your ass so hard, your bell-bottoms will be ringing.

Or maybe Apple is just tired of flagrant and constant violation of NDAs, and are really cracking down on violators and are finally keeping leaks down to a minimum.
Remember, we didn't know much about the MWSF announcements until just shortly before the show, and even then, they took most by surprise.
I think Apple is just doing better at keeping things under wraps and keeping people from violating NDAs, or putting those who would violate an NDA into a position which would give them information they could exploit in such a manner.

Re: Apple will switch to Intel CPU's (Article OPINION)
I am not talking about NDAs and rumors.
I am talking about what Apple says themselves.
Really, right after every version of OS X (about a month or something like that) Apple announced the next version of OS X and some features that will make it cool.
We should know something about 10.3 by now and Apple has not even publicly announced its existence.
I really think 10.3 has something special in it.

A switch from PPC to x86 isn't going to happen. If you're unable to grasp why, due to hardware architecture, software, and transitionary obstacles, it is not a feasible, reasonable, or logical solution to Apple's perceived "problem" then you flat out do not get it, and probably never will.

That is a bit fishy, I guess. I think 10.3 is just going to be amazing and special. Or maybe 10.3 will be 64-bit for the PPC 970 or something, and as such it would not be prudent to make announcements about it yet, as it would blow the cover on the 970, or whatever.

A switch from PPC... to x86... will not... happen. If... you are... unable to grasp why... then you will never understand. I never trusted X86... and I never will... after the death of Bob.

Spoofi, i already asked if you were going to pull evidence of this from your ass, as that is generally from whence you speak, and you haven't yet, so just go back to your room.
I find that offensive! I just got off breast milk you know... :chatterbox:
