Re: Something really awful is going to happen.

I'm about up to here with implications that everything the president has done with regards to this issue is irrational, baseless, and without consideration for all the repercussions.

It's just not true.

Actually, it is. They go off to war, thinking, "we'll be home by christmas, this'll be a walk in the park." Now, Turkey's getting involved, fighting off the Kurds, who are supposed to be on the US' side. The Kurds are fighting amongst themselves, too, and this is likely to get worse before it gets any better.

A few cruise missiles, "accidently" dropped on Iran, on oil installations no less, while at the same time bombing shiite muslims in Iraq, one of the largest groups opposing Saddam's reign, and close allies with Iran. Might well spark off Iran enough to make them join the festivities.

Then all hell will break loose in the middle east, quite the contrary of what Bush and his pals had in mind.

All Saddam has to do to make it really fun, is drop a missile or two on Israel, and the Israeli army will strike back with all they have. It's just the excuse they've been waiting for, with that madman Sharon at the helm.

It's more than just short-sighted and overconfident to think they can just go in and pull it off. It's stoopid and dangerous to the middle east and the world at large. Why do you think Saddam was allowed to stay in power for so long?

even if Bush himself is less than capable for the task at hand, he has a slew of men surrounding him at every waking hour who are knowledgeable, experienced, and qualified.

But not elected. Who'se actually in charge in the US? Bush? I don't think so. Who elected Donald Rumsfeld to be the boss?

Alright, first off, if you can see this happening, I guarantee you that Bush, the military, the presidential cabinet, they know it just as well.  It is pretty obvious that they're orchestrating what they do to cause as little collateral damage as possible (with the supreme objective still being to remove Saddam Hussein).

It's interesting that your blurbs about Sunday picnics and such remind me more of Saddam's speech in response to the opening attacks.  (Seriously, could we repeat, "Draw your swords!" one more time?  Please?)

And how about the military folks in the cabinet?  They're there 'cause they're good at what they do, and it's hard to get around that.  I find it hard to believe that you could suggest an uninformed and short-sighted decision on this one.
