Can't Burn DVD-R

My SuperDrive won't burn dvd-r disks anymore, it gives me an error of error code -2147352480.  It doesn't give me the error during the burn, it is right after the preparation and just before the burn.  It gives me an error both when i try to burn from the finder and from Rioxo toast 5.1.2.  I looked for the error code on the Apple website, but it was not listed.  Its not like it never worked before, I have burned dvd disks before, but since then i did a firmware upgrade and os upgrade (to 10.2).  I don't think its an optical disk problem because i can burn cd-r and cd-rw disks fine.  Does anyone have any idea as to what is going on and how to fix it?  Thanks in advance.

Re: Can't Burn DVD-R

what Mac model do you have? what are you trying to burn? at what speed? got enough RAM? the more details you can give us, the better we can help.

Also, you may want to upgrade to 10.2.4 and Toast 5.2.1.

Re: Can't Burn DVD-R

Sorry about that, i should've included more details...
I'm running 10.2.4, latest firmware, 640 megs of ram on a 867 (single) tower. i try to burn at 2x, i haven't tried 1x, but i don't think it would matter because it is not exactly a burning error but a prepping error.  I haven't update toast, but i don't see why that would make a difference since i could burn dvd's before hand, even though it was not in jaguar...  Any help is very welcome.  Thank you in advance.

Re: Can't Burn DVD-R

How much free disk space do you have?  The OS reserves the space on the hard drive to prep and burn the disk image.  If you have less than 4.7 GB free, it will not be able to burn a DVD.

http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx? … @.3bbcc037

I have a PowerBook 15' and I have the "same exact error", it seems to be a software (but yet "maybe" hardware due to ur drive not being fast enough for the superdrive) Go to the url above, thats apples support site with a post with people that have the same exact error. It sucks, I know. Lets hope apple will fix it asap!

Re: Can't Burn DVD-R

Hi there Tortri, I talked to an Apple Genius at my local apple store, and he said that it was very likely to be an optical drive problem, ie- you need to replace the optical drive in your comp.  Sorry to tell you this.  I suggest you bring it in to an Apple store and, if you still hav it under warenty, get it replaced.  Sorry sad it sucks.
