I have a problem
Yeah. It sucks really bad, and I was wondering if anyone could help. I have this problem, where, even if I'm doing something "non-physical", I'll start sweating. Like playing the Bass Clarinet in band. I'll be playing... boom! I'll start sweating. And not just a little bit. Enough to get nice little rings. Also, my hands will get sweaty, and it's really embarrassing to try and dance with someone with my sweaty hands.
The part that is hard to cope with is that I have to walk around with my arms clinched by my sides so the stains don't show. It's really starting to tick me off, now that I have a girlfriend. Can anyone (Licensed MD, etc) please help? I could really use some advice/remedies. Thanks.

Re: I have a problem
There are lots of different things that can cause sweating problems such as yours. I strongly suggest talking to your doctor about possible solutions.

Re: I have a problem
Wow, thanks Malkin! Unfortunately, my mom believes that "it's just a horomonal thing", and that it'll pass. Being 14 sucks.

She may be quite right. You probably will just grow out of it. Still, it doesn't hurt to be on the safe side and get a doctor's opinion.

Re: I have a problem
Well, I'll be having a physical soon, so what should I ask the doctor?
"Yeah, I have this sweating problem....blah...."
Like that? I'm afraid of the doctor!
But thanks for all your help, Malkin!

Yes, like that! You oughtn't be afraid of your doctor; he or she is there to help you!
Perhaps it would help you to make a list before you go in. Write down all the things that cause you to sweat, how much you sweat and for how long, and where you sweat from. Then you can either just hand the list to your doctor, or at least have a clearer idea of what you want to say to him or her.
Good luck!

Re: I have a problem
Well here's the thing. I guess I don't really have a reason to start sweating... it just happens. Like my hands. Right now... all sweaty. I was looking at the website... stopsweat.com. It says that it can be used for "Teenagers or adults experiencing horomonal changes". Bingo, I guess, however it says that it's available OTC, and it's probably less "potent" than the DrySol my mom lets me borrow (yes, it's probably genetics). Any suggestions? :?:

Dude, you play the bass clarinet!! That's awesome! That's what I'm playing right now in symphonic band, and it's helped my soprano playing a ton. I discovered breath support because of it!

Re: I have a problem
"Sweaty Palms" is an actual psychological thing. Its caused by stresses in your life, both positive and negative.
I get it sometimes, like when I'm nervous about presenting in class or something.
You mean its not the real grail??

Try oboe or english horn or bassoon... Then you'll learn the meaning of good breath support AND good embachore (can't spell it, never seen it written, basically, it's the way your lips are placed on a mouthpiece/reed).

Hehe, I'm actually taking class bassoon now (I should have waited; stupid stupid stupid!!!), and that thing is a beast. My embochure is basically "don't bite" (which is actually helping me on clarinet), and I can usually hit the upper register on a couple of tries. One big problem is that I have no lung capcacity whatsoever, and I'm working on that. I'm not looking forward to oboe at all; hopefully by that time I'll be good enough at the clarinet to be able to transfer some skills. On another note, I need to practice more.

::scoffs:: Try TRUMPET. Now that's where it matters. We only have 3 keys and need to get 3 octaves out of that.
I'm 16. I've been sweating quite a bit since I was, like 12. It's embarassing, especially since I'm overwieght, althoug there's no doubt in my mind that that has SOMETHING to do with it. Yeah, it's embarrassing, especialy at dances. But it helps you root out your real friends. Like there were these two girls, both older than me. One hugged me at a dance, I was sweating, and she was like "ew". Then the other hugged me and she didn't care.
<><
That is all.

As far as breathing techniques go, I know the double reeds beat out any other instrument... Can't speak to how tight your lips get playing trumpet.

If you don't want the sweat to show or to stop it or whatever I recommend going from deodarant to anti-persperant. Although some crazy experiment says anti-persiperant can lead to cancer, like everything now adays.

I'm pretty sure "anti-persiperant" is safe. Minus this lump that seems to be forming under my armpit.
