I hate shaving!

Damn!  I have really thick hairs and relatively thin skin.  Even with a Mach3 my face is covered in blood and it looks like I shave with a belt sander.  My towel looks like I used it to clean up a murder scene.  Why is there such a damn obsession with male facial hair removal?   mad

My skin is tough enough that I wash my face with FastOrange handcleaner, and I have a beard, so I may be looking at things from a different perspective. However, for the parts of my face/neck that I do shave, I prefer a straight razor - curiously enough I cut myself less with a straight razor than I do with a Gilette Sensor. It takes practice, and it can be really messy until you get the hang of it but a straight razor does a nice job.

Re: I hate shaving!

Try a straight razor; that might help as it's often sharper.

jeebuz, how do you guys shave with a straight razor.  The thought gives me the willies.  Maybe that's from seeing Dressed to Kill to many times.

Re: I hate shaving!

If you can, try wilkinson sword extreme III, use a good quality foam or gel, and shave everyday before the stubble gets too long, and last but not least, make sure the razor is sharp. The extreme III should be good for at least three shaves.  wink

If that don't work you can always grow a beard  neutral

Male hair is thicker and the face is all irregular.  Legs are a lot simpler and the hair is finer and sparser.

Oh, and where does one find a straight razor?  I can't even find an older non-cartridge safety razor.

Then you'll love this. I am right handed. I shave the right side of my throat with the razor in my right hand. However, it is awkward as hell to shave the left side of my throat that way, plus my arm is in the way and I can't see what I'm doing in the mirror. So, I shave the left side of my throat southpaw.

Re: I hate shaving!

I suppose I'm thick skinned as for a long period of time I shaved with just water and never really had a problem with cutting myself.  The only areas that are tough are right around the corner where your jaw makes an "L."  For some reason little bits of sideburn sneak around the corner and it annoys me to know end when I notice later on.  The only way to get rid of them is to shave against the grain at a funky angle, making it easier to snag yourself.  And throat hair just never needed to be conceived, awful stuff.

That's why I wear a goat and try to avoid shaving as much as possible.  When I do shave, I use an electric razor set so as to have a perfect constant 5 o'clock shadow look a la George Clooney or something.

Re: I hate shaving!

Well, I too have the same problem, being 50% italian gives me some damn thick face hairs.  I use the Mach Three Turbo by gillette, and I usually cut myself, but i found ways to reduce my cuts....

Rather than using the can of shaving gel, get the soap and brush (from Crabtree and Evelyn or other stores similar), you can lather it on real thick if you like, and you can make it warm, letting your skin become more flexible and less prone to cuts

Also shave at night, With the Mach Three Turbo, you don't usually have to shave every day,  it is hard to tell if you didn't shave come morning because you can get such a close shave with this razor.

I also shave down with the hairs, and then up against my hairs to get even closer, but it took me awhile before I could do that and not get cut.

I hope that helped.

Try a beard.  No pain, no hassle.  Much quicker in the bathroom in the morning.

Once a month, I trim my beard.

Re: I hate shaving!

My husband's whiskers are so tough they break the screen on most electric razors and wear out the blades in a month, so I got him one of those self cleaning (sort of) Braun Razors w/ the lcd on it. it cost a fortune, but he's been able to use it for 4 months now, and it's still going strong.

I trust you speak from experience?

When I shave, I get razor rash so bad, by the time it goes away, the hair is back. I've tried just about every method there is that fits in my budget - what do you use?

'Lectric razors rule. Not only do you get that ruggedly handsome stubble look, but you can get it in the car on the way to work. Or in the bathroom at work. Or at your desk. Or racing around on an Icelandic glacier.Or hanging by your toes in a North Korean detention facility. (What, you didn't see Die Another Day?)

I grow a beard.  Shave my face a few times a year, my head every few years, and that's about it.  I like alternating between hippie and skinhead.

Re: I hate shaving!

Just grow a beard if you get bored of shaving. Seeing a geek beard scares no one. It's ok *for a male* to not shave (his beard or anything else).

When you are a girl .. instead you have to shave below your throat. That is a lot of more space and time. If I do nothing for 3 days .. I feel (look) disgusted. So shaving at least legs and armpits .. I hope I don't have to go to the dirty details? When I'll have enough money, I'll do the lasering, I can't stand shaving, waxing etc  ...

Re: I hate shaving!

Do barbers still use straight razors? Maybe you could check with your local barber to see where he gets his.
My boyfriend has quite the opposite problem. He has some sort of disease,.I can't remember the name of it, but anyway, it made him lose all of his body hair. ALL of it.

Re: I hate shaving!

Here is a quick fix, have yourself castrated then take a bunch of estrogen. Before long you will have breasts, and hair will be less of complaint than the shivering curdling female pitch of your voice when you will whine about other nonsensical anatomical attributes.

Amen, brotha.

They don't call me the Wookiee for nothin'!

I do shave once in a while, just to keep everybody wondering. But I think my wife has only seen my chin twice in 8 years.

Alopecia is the disease that makes all your hair fall out.  And the back and shoulders are two places men might consider removing hair.  Alec Baldwin used to get his chest waxed if you can imagine that pain.

Youch!

Yea, my face is like that.  By the time the rash goes away, I have to shave again.  Even if I shave every other day (which the Navy does not like), it still burns like a sander.  And if you haven't seen the pictures of myself that I usually post when asked, you wouldn't understand how I know some things...
