I'd suggest holding off on running the updated version. I haven't checked the Mac versions, but from messages I've seen concerning the messy-dos versions, it looks like they didn't turn on some of the execution optimizations when they compiled it, so it runs measurably slower.
Of course, you need to decide if the risk is acceptable for yourself, but keep in mind that the buffer overflow bug can only be exploited if someone manages to trick your computer into connecting to a rogue server instead of S@Hs, or taking over the proxy server you're pointing to, if you're using one. Besides, to accomplish anything worse than crashing your S@H client, the malicious person would need to write a Mac-specific worm.
