I'm not going to be a cardiologist

The Air Force in it's infinite wisdom just informed me today that I was not accepted into their fellowship program in San Antonio.
Of course, they won't even give me a straight answer why not! So I'll be leaving the AF next fall and won't be looking back!

My heart goes out to you. sad  tongue

There's always other specialties to go into.

Incidentally, my Dad was a physician in the Air Force, but he was a pediatrician.

That's ok, the Air Force is another one that is no longer the real military anyway.

Try crossing over to the Navy. They are always looking for outstanding, qualified, dedicated young men like yourself. Might be worth looking into.

And to Gator, the Army is not either, and you know it.

Re: I'm not going to be a cardiologist

Wish I could switch over to the Navy, Mart. Unfortunately it was a tri-service board (Army, Navy, Air Force), so I was already rejected by all the services. So screw 'em...they won't let me do what I want to do...I'm out at the first opportunity!

Doc that stinks!  First of all because it's what you wanted, and second of all there would have been a chance of breaking the record for most [MA] and associated people meeting in person.

At certain times of the year the San Antonio/Austin area can have myself, Sifl, Og, Que, PoonOfWar in residence, adding you to the bunch would have been sweet.  Best of luck in your next plan!

True, true.  But Austin is a nice area.  Its a bit humid for me.  However all those bats take care of the bugs, so one doesn't have to escape the mosquitos every evening.

I feel for you in losing that opportunity.  With that in mind, let me say: don't sweat it.  the lost benefits of paying for your school is minor compared to the fact that you'll get MUCH better training anywhere besides the gov't. if you go into/continue medicine, you'll likely be a better doc.

this has been the Voice of Experience, as one who's mother and ownself were totally ****ed by AF docs.

Re: I'm not going to be a cardiologist

Well, I am still an MD and board-certified in Internal Medicine, so I won't be changing my nickname
to [MA]Just_Plain_Rob{ds} anytime soon wink

I may very well apply to some civilian fellowship programs and try again to get into a cardiology program,
but probably not until next year as the deadline for this year is 12/31! Don't think I'll be able to get all my
transcripts and letters mailed in by then...oh well life goes on!

Doc, Try looking into OHSU, Oregon Health Siences Uni. They have all kinds of programs there from what I understand. And when I talked to my Dr/Good friend of Lisa's and mine, she said they are one of the best out there.

So it wont hurt to check.

Agreed, my best friend is heavily considering going in for nursing there.
