Worthless beta...
I posted over at battle.net, and someone said to post here, so here it goes..
Found out three weeks ago I got into the beta, hooray hooray, jump scream, all that (not quite, but internally..) downloaded, couldn't find my copy of war3. Reinstall a couple times, it works.
Patch 300 causes war3 to "unexpectedly quit." Try a thousand or three times, reinstall a few more, it works.
Patch 301 causes kernel panics at or less than 6%. Oh, the pain...
I call tech support, they say "reinstall."
Email support says "reinstall."
Channel support says "reinstall."
None of the above listen when I tell them I've done that in excess of 15 times, along with removing those 6 files.
Then I had the brilliant idea to install a fresh copy of 10.2 onto my iPod. No dice, still doesn't work.
Now here's where I am:
I reinstalled and deleted everything, upgraded war3 to 1.05, then upgradeed through the beta installer to v299. Downloaded v300 with very little pain, and tried v301, which works as well as asking Saddam to show us where the chemical weapons are. One tech support guy said to try and stop/restart 301 download every 3%. I did that...15 or 20 times, and once I got to 20%.
Now, since Blizzard just tells me nothing useful and won't give me a standalone patch, I'm wondering if anyone would be insanely great and give me a place to find a standalone download of patches 301-307. I can prove I have a valid CD key...I'll send a pic of the main screen if you care.
I'm on OS X 10.2.5, G4 733.
God doesn't like me. Or He doesn't like the beta, but other people can play it. I guess He just doesn't like me. That sucks.
It's because I have a Mac, isn't it?

Re: Worthless beta...
Well.. I got to 52% by canceling/restarting every 1%. Then it quit. I have lost all motivation to try this until tech support does something or I can find a copy of a standalone patch. Seriously...it's just not worth this waste of time.

Re: Worthless beta...
Tlak, I have the same machine, same OS same beta and I have no problems. They cant really give a whole lot of tech support to this because it is BETA. There will be bugs and things. I think personally that you should trash all the prefs, delete your whole war3 folder (which i think you did already) and reinstall warcraft 3. then download the newest beta installer from Bliz. Then install. Sorry if you have already tried this, but is all the help I can offer. I hope you get it working...

Re: Worthless beta...
ACK! Tlak ive been posting mac fixes on the battle.net forums for a looong time, but nooooobody reads them. I saw your posts, but you never looked when i posted.
-open the patch.txt and modify it in a subtle way then save.
-change the prefs in FT around before you get online.
-on restart get OpenFirmware going then type "reset-all" without the quotes
-macjanitor to do the monthly task, you dont even have to finish it just, get it started and then stop.
-If you installed another hard disc make sure its connected with the right chain inside the tower.
-SEND the error log to beta support everytime it crashes.
-if you're using multiple users, then make sure that the warcraft folder allows read and write from all users.
-in mac os 9, you can get info, then change the preferred memory size
-Lastly, im noticing this only with G4 Tower users. Ive never heard of another mac having this problem. Since you started it up from your ipod and it didnt work, its probably the hardware if the above doesnt work. Cleaning the inside of your comp can help, well i dont know but it gave me a good run for awhile, then started again.
-also im talking about the bug that causes the whole system to freeze up, where you cant do a thing, cept hit the programmers button.
