Digital Camera recomendations
Well the last camera I had finaly died, and the sad thing is the cost of a repair is a minimum of 85$ to an average of 175$. So that is leaning me towards getting a new camera. I dont need the most pixels 2 or less, and most cameras work with iPhoto. I just need a decent camera with modest features for average use, no need for great detail. Camera's that I have looked at are the Canon Digital Elph, and their Powershot A200.
What cameras do you have? what cameras did you not like etc...

Re: Digital Camera recomendations
I have the ORIGINAL Digital Elph, and even 3 years old, it is an amazing little camera. I have gotten shots that my friends camera that cost double and was bought later can't pull off. I strongly recommend any of the Elphs.

will help guide you.
You can select:
a singe manufacturer (or any)
minimum # of megapixels
memory type (i.e. compact flash)
connection type (USB, etc.)
and keywords of your choice.
I put in 2 megapixels, compact flash and keyword "rechargeable" battery -- my camera came out near the top in terms of price. (hint: a Nikon).

Re: Digital Camera recomendations
Agreed Nikon makes excellent digital camera's. Just don't buy one that is too cheap, as they are not worth it in the end.

Re: Digital Camera recomendations
Although Nikon uses the Coolpix name for 6-7 different cameras, there are 2 groups from my point of view.
The swivel type and the normal type. I prefer the swivel.
The 2500 is good enough for 90 % of my shots. The 3500 would increase that somewhat.

Re: Digital Camera recomendations
The best place on the web to get digital camera information is:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/
Additionally, there are several forums. I would specifically recommend checking the Canon & Nikon forums on dpreview. I'm sure people on these forums will be very helpful in your selection.
Canon uses Compact Flash. I would definately stay away from Smart Media and Memory sticks as they are limited in size and very expensive.
I would also recommend a camera that has a bit of weight over one that's credit card size. The extremely lightweight ones are more difficult to hold steady resulting in soft exposures.
Good luck with your purchase and let us know what you end up with

Or pick up a MacAddict. They review a really nice camera, I forget the exact model... I think it was Olympus. Anyway, it rocked, and I want one. :-)

Re: Digital Camera recomendations
Make sure it has at least some sort of optical zoom (digital zoom blows, i can do that in photoshop) and a viewfinder (great for balancing your camera and conerving battery)
Will Farrel with a fake beard and a pillow under his red suit is going to bring my canon Elph S200 sometime early morning on the 25th
the viewfinder is why i went with the elph over the little Nikon

Re: Digital Camera recomendations
I just got a Toshiba 3300 for Christmas. It's a 3.2 megapixel and takes wonderful pictures. The thing I like about it the most is the simplicity of the the menu and the options on the LCD. I recommend you find a camera that you enjoy and feel it is easy to navigate through all different screens. Good luck in your hunt.

Re: Digital Camera recomendations
I have a Nikon CoolPix 885 that I love. It is a 3.21 megapixel camera that gets great detail. Loads of features.
If you have a Ritz or Wolf camera near you they sell an extended type warranty that all says as long as the can get the serial number off your camera if it stops working they will replace it. I asked the sales guy when I bought my camera and he said that it covers any damage (including hitting it with a hammer).
Whatever camera you get invest in a larger memory card. Most cameras ship with tiny (8MB) cards that fill up quickly. Also invest in several rechargable batteries. Monitors chew through batteries.

Re: Digital Camera recomendations
I have an HP 318 camera and I really like it. I got it for $179 at Circuit City about 6 months ago. I see that the new HP 320 looks like a newer version of the camera for only $149. I don't think you can beat the quality and features for that price. Here is a link to it:
http://www.compusa.com/products/product … ode=294591
It has 2.1 megapixels (1632 x 1232 pixel pictures) which is more than enough for viewing pictures on the computer and great for printing. Also the 320 has a motion capture feature which sounds interesting, my 318 doesn't have that. It has flash and comes with the usb cable. It has a 1.5 inch LCD screen so you can view your pictures right on the camera. Another nice thing is it comes with 8MB of internal memory (and you can insert memory cards for more storage). But I have found it really nice that it has internal memory so in case you forget your memory card or if you run out, you don't have to worry about swapping in another card.
The HP works great with iPhoto. Just plug in the camera and image capture automatically opens and asks if you'd like to send your pictures to the computer.

Re: Digital Camera recomendations
thanks for all the replies, and links and opinions, what matters most is it uses AA batter, accepts compact flash, and will last a few years in good hands.
Digital Elph is the strong contender, I will look at that HP camera, depending on the size and the ease of use that might be my choice.

Re: Digital Camera recomendations
I love my canon S230.. although not a PRO camera - this thing fits in my pocket and because of that I take it everywhere. A clunky digital is so annoying. If I want high quality I'll take my 35mm SLR.

Re: Digital Camera recomendations
ok, I finaly chose the Digital Elph, S200, its 2 megapixel, small and easy to use, works with iPhoto, and Circuit city had a decent price on a 48 month extended service, 60$ (15$ per year is worth it to me since my last camera just took a crap)...
so far so good, I like this camera alot.
